Who said technical sessions have to be serious all the time?

This Learning Thursday, Pratham Munjal, Engineering Associate, proved that some of the best learning happens when you mix technical depth with a healthy dose of sarcasm and humour. He took us through "Bhagwan Bharose Tech", a fun, tongue-in-cheek session exploring the all-too-familiar engineering shortcuts, "it works on my machine" moments, and the realities every tech professional has encountered at some point.

Through witty examples, relatable scenarios, and plenty of laughs, Pratham kept the session engaging while driving home valuable engineering concepts and practical insights. It was a reminder that learning sticks better when it's interactive, enjoyable, and challenges you to think differently.

Six penalties. Six different root causes. One shared story.

RBI's latest enforcement round fined six NBFCs โ€” Muthoot Finance โ‚น5.80 lakh, Avail Financial Services โ‚น6.20 lakh, Satya MicroCapital and PAN Emami Cosmed โ‚น3.10 lakh each, and Dhani Loans and Services and Muthoot Vehicle & Asset Finance โ‚น2.70 lakh each โ€” for a set of violations that, on the surface, look unrelated.

Look closer and a pattern emerges:

โ†’ Muthoot Finance had no system in place for periodic review of customer risk categorisation, and hadn't deployed software robust enough to catch suspicious transactions.

โ†’ Muthoot Vehicle & Asset Finance missed the six-monthly risk review window mandated under KYC norms.

โ†’ Satya MicroCapital failed to reclassify certain restructured loans as NPAs โ€” an asset-classification lapse, not an intent to deceive.

โ†’ Avail Financial Services breached single-party exposure limits because its MD's overlapping directorships weren't flagged in time.

Not one of these is a fraud case. Every one of them is a coordination failure โ€” a risk flag that lived in one system, a policy update that never reached another, an audit trail that existed but wasn't connected to the team that needed to see it.

This is the real cost of fragmented GRC: not that any single team is negligent, but that risk, policy, audit, and compliance sit in different tools, different owners, different timelines โ€” and the gaps between them are exactly where regulators find their evidence.

This is the problem Ascent is built to close.

This week's Learning Thursday was unlike any other.

Led by Atharv Singh Shekhawat, the session introduced us to the ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฆ๐ž๐๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, not as a practice reserved for yogis, but as a simple tool to improve focus, reduce stress, and bring greater clarity into our everyday lives.

Then came the most powerful part.

For 10 uninterrupted minutes, the entire office sat in complete silence. Eyes closed. No conversations. No notifications. No distractions. Just a room full of people taking a moment to pause, breathe, and be present.

In a fast-paced workplace, those ten minutes felt incredibly refreshing, a reminder that sometimes, stepping back is the best way to move forward.
