Binary101 is an initiative brought about by some of us at The Shri Ram School Aravali, to introduce and expose students to the world of computer science. This club is OF THE STUDENTS, BY THE STUDENTS, FOR THE STUDENTS. We can and will make mistakes, and are happy to accept guidance and/or suggestions from parents, teachers, and friends. If you have any feedback, please let us know, and we will be

happy to accommodate you. The primary objective of this society is to create a circle of like-minded programmers, who would help the school administration and hopefully others, to perform tasks such as developing websites for upcoming events and organisations, building applications for mobile devices, and much more. Hopefully these exercises will give students a greater understanding of computers and programming. Computers are a large part of our lives, and are expected to take on even larger roles in the future. The humble computer may drive our cars, work our banks, check our homework and maybe even read our minds! The world is moving away from doing everyday tasks manually, and is instead looking at computers to make life simpler. So it is imperative that we familiarize ourselves with computer science. Being the inaugural year, this society will begin by teaching students of classes 7 - 12, every Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. These classes will provide beginners as well as experienced students a hands-on experience to explore the world of computer science. These classes will not burden the students through tests and exams, nor will it grade students, but will encourage students to explore concepts on their own through research, interaction with peers and the internet. Circulars have been given out by email--please respond to [email protected], or print and drop off your signed slips outside the Vice-Principal's office. We hope to see you around! (It'll be fun so join up!)

Binary 101 is finally here! This year we are looking to create a coding community instead of a teaching course like we did last year.

Our first stayback is tmrw after school. If any of you are interested in joining the club inbox us by today(Apologies for the late post)!

To conclude this post I would like to quote Narendra Modi while he stood in front of Hugh Jackman: "May the force be with you".

Yours,
The Binary 101 Team.

Binary 101 will be starting soon! We'll let you know the exact date in a while. If any of you wish to join our computer society (Binary 101), join other societies for now and then you'll receive an option to leave your chosen societies and join us.

Happy Coding!
The Binary 101 Team.

A follow-up course has been announced by code.org teaching you the basics of programming!

Not just anybody, but dudes like Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates are gonna help you learn the basics of programming!

With the knowledge of Computer Science, anyone can convert their ideas into reality through various means such as apps, websites etc. Android apps and web pages are essentially programmed with the help of a programming language called "Java", which Binary 101 will be teaching.

This 20-hour course introduces core computer science and programming concepts. The course is designed for use in classrooms for grades K-8, but it is fun to learn at all ages.

The Hour of Code is here..

Just an hour and you can learn the basics of Computer Science!

“Computer science is a liberal
art, it’s something that
everyone should be exposed
to, everybody should have a
mastery of to some extent.”
– Steve Jobs

3 million students across almost 20,000 schools, in 150 countries have signed up for the Hour of Code.

This is shaping up to be the largest learning event in history. And we'd love your help to make it even bigger.

Every child should learn computer science.

Starting Dec. 9, anybody can learn the basics -- from Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Angry Birds, in over 20 languages. Set aside just an HOUR to learn yourself, too.

Just try it out, what do have to lose? Just click the link to sign up. :D

It's a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator.

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been using a software called 'Scratch' to introduce basic problem-solving and programming concepts. It is designed to help people, having little to no experience, understand the power of programming. Using Scratch, even complete beginners can share and distribute their work on the internet. It has changed the face of programming, which had earlier been infamous for being 'boring' and 'nerdy'.

Nowadays, learning programming is very similar to learning an art.
Writing good programs requires more of creativity, style and wit, as opposed to recalling large and complex statements.

In this article, the creators of Scratch talk about principles that guided their development of Scratch to make programming accessible and engaging for everyone.

We hope you enjoy it!

Learning about binary numbers only takes a BIT of effort!

A huge thank you to everybody who came to today's meeting! Looking forward to having a great time with all of you :)

And for everybody else... It's not too late! You're still completely welcome to join. The more, the merrier! Keep in mind, however, that this will be your last chance... So think wisely!
