RBI changes loan recovery rules from January 1, 2027

Banks cannot disable your phone or laptop if you default on a personal, home or car loan.

They can only do this if the device itself was bought using that loan.

I feel this is a good change for borrowers. 👍

A man had been recharging his Airtel number with the ₹1,099 plan every 84 days.

Out of curiosity, he calculated how much he would spend if he continued using the same plan for an entire year. The total came to around ₹4,775.

At the same time, news reports suggested that mobile recharge prices could increase in the coming months.

That made him wonder:

"Would it be smarter to recharge for the whole year now and avoid a future price hike?"

He started comparing Airtel's annual plans.

₹4,099 – Valid for 365 days
₹3,999 – Annual validity
₹3,599 – Annual validity

To compare them fairly, he calculated the daily cost of each plan.

₹4,099 plan: about ₹11.23 per day
₹3,999 plan: about ₹10.95 per day
₹3,599 plan: about ₹9.86 per day

Now the real question was:

"If I only need unlimited calling and mobile data, without OTT subscriptions or other extra benefits, which plan offers the best value?"

He also considered that if recharge prices really do increase in the next few months, locking in a one-year plan today could save money over time.

Still, he didn't recharge immediately.

Instead, he began checking different apps, payment platforms, and offers to see whether any additional discounts or cashback were available before making a decision.

In the end, he realized something important:

Choosing a mobile recharge plan isn't just about picking the cheapest option. It's about finding the plan that matches your usage. Factors such as daily data requirements, calling needs, validity, and overall value matter just as much as the price.

A plan that is perfect for one person may not be the best choice for someone else.

What about you?

If you only need calling and data, would you prefer to recharge for the entire year at once to lock in today's price, or would you rather stick with smaller recharges for more flexibility?

Sadly, the days of 9% FD interest rates are gone. No bank is offering 9% anymore.

Our customer FD recently matured, and we had to reinvest it at 8.5%.

Below are the latest FD interest rates offered by small finance banks 👇

One important point: Small Finance Banks carry relatively higher risk than large scheduled commercial banks. They're not suitable for everyone. Also remember that bank deposits are insured only up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank under the deposit insurance scheme.

Please do your own research and assess the risks before investing.

Jio, Airtel and Vi are expected to increase mobile plan prices by 12% over the next 3 to 4 months, according to a Centrum report.

If the hike is around 12%

₹349 (28 days) → ~₹389
₹899 (84 days) → ~₹1,007
₹3,599 (365 days) → ~₹4,031

The final prices may vary depending on how telecom operators revise individual plans.

India is testing plastic ₹10 and ₹20 notes.

The Indian government has approved RBI's plan to test 1 billion ₹10 and 1 billion ₹20 polymer banknotes across the country.

Unlike paper notes, polymer notes are more resistant to water, dirt and everyday wear. Countries like Australia and Canada have already been using them for years because they last much longer.

This is only a field trial to see how the notes perform in India's climate and how people respond to them. Existing paper notes will continue to remain in circulation, and there are no plans for a complete switch yet.

If the trials are successful, polymer notes could reduce printing costs over time and make India's most-used cash denominations more durable.

Big Change May Be Coming for UPI Payments!

The Government is reportedly considering reintroducing a 0.5% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions above ₹2,000 for large merchants.

If implemented, this could mark a significant shift from the current zero-MDR regime, aiming to support banks and payment service providers. Small merchants are expected to remain unaffected.

Note: This is under consideration and has not been officially implemented yet.
