Application of software technology on modern health care services:

Merely two decades ago no body knew anything about big data, artificial intelligence & cloud computing, ,“internet of things” and wearable devices.

Today with the emergence of these software technologies , things that were impossible to even comprehend in the past are now revolutionising the entire workflow in almost every industry, including the health care industry .

Today one can think of analysing and interpreting a medical image in nanoseconds. A disease like cancer can be diagnosed and treated hundreds of times faster and with more accuracy.

The arrival of new software technology is today a continuous and rapidly evolving process. Its wide ranging and penetrating applications are significantly nurturing the development and emancipation of modern health care services .

The available medical software solutions are numerous, everyday creating new possibilities in the healthcare industry.

Many of the artificial intelligence applications are today helping the ongoing fight against COVID-19. Through these applications , healthcare professionals are able to detect, predict and cope up with one of the gravest global challenge before mankind.

Some of the key applications:

Take for example "Diagnosaurus" , a healthcare mobile app which evolved during the last decade. It's past diagnosis list enables doctors to explore more than 1000 differential diagnoses by organ, symptom or disease, by just tapping the phone once. It has a unique feature called "See Related DDx". This feature helps doctors to study and consult a whole range of alternative diagnoses.

Another example of how technology is helping doctors with diagnostics is substantiated by the FDNA company, specialised in next-generation phenotyping.

The company developed Face2Gene - a facial recognition software combined with machine learning.

Face2Gene is “a search and reference tool" for rare diseases . Only healthcare professionals are permitted to use it . It is helping clinicians to make fast differential diagnoses. It also helps laboratories to correlate their sequencing results to the patient’s phenotype. Their AI technology facilitates facial photo analysis and clinical notes (text) analysis . This largely helps laboratories to correlate sequencing results to the patient’s phenotype.

Presently, there are above 400 million patients globally suffering from rare diseases. Half of these patients are children. Face2Gene app is today widely used by healthcare professionals for many of them.

In recent times many start-ups have emerged with the objective of making diagnosis more accurate, by implementing AI technology.

One of these companies is Aidoc, an Israeli start-up that is using AI to analyse medical scans of head, spine, abdomen and chest.

The company has corroborated how their products help radiologists to detect and pinpoint critical anomalies through deep learning and AI algorithms, that analyze medical images and patient data.

They are equipped with a prioritizing tool which flags critical findings e.g. intracranial haemorrhage on noncontrast CT head scans. This also helps the radiologists who are now able to adjust their worklist as per the critical findings..

Emerging technology and future employment generation...the awesome duo :

Edge Computing

Cloud computing has already occupied the central stage and while the adoption of it is still growing , with more and more businesses migrating to a cloud solution, it’s no longer an "emerging" technology trend.

However the volume of data various companies are dealing with these days, continues to rise exponentially. This makes them realise the limitations of cloud computing in certain circumstances thus paving way for Edge computing as a new emerging trend.

Edge computing is designed to resolve some of those problems . It emerges as an alternative and better choice to bypass the latency caused by cloud computing, subsequently processing data by getting it to a data center.
In other words Edge computing can be used to process time-sensitive data in remote locations. It will have limited or zero connectivity to a centralized location. In such situations, edge computing can act like mini data centers.

Edge computing will increase as use of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices increases. By 2022, the global edge computing market is expected to reach $6.72 billion. And this new technology trend is only meant to grow and nothing less, creating various jobs, primarily for software engineers.

Artificial Intelligence:

AI continues to be one of the emerging new technology trends because its notable effects on our life are only in its early stages.

AI is already known for its huge contributions in image and speech recognition, navigation apps, smartphone personal assistants, ride-sharing apps and so on.

AI will be further enhance analysing interactions , determining surrogate and underlying connections and insights, thus helping to predict demand for services like hospitals etc. This in turn focuses on enabling authorities to make better decisions about resource utilization as well as to detect the changing patterns of customer behaviour. This is done by analyzing data in near real-time, driving revenues and ensuring personalized experiences.

By 2025 The AI market is projected grow to a $190 billion industry. The global spending on cognitive and AI systems is predicted to reach over $57 billion in 2021. With AIflourishing across sectors, new jobs will be created in development, programming, testing, support and maintenance, to name a few.

AI also provides some of the highest salary package today, in the areas of machine learning engineering and AI architecture , making it a top emerging technology trend of modern times.

Machine Learning being the subset of AI, is aldeployed in various categories of industries, creating a huge demand for highly skilled knowledge professionals

New initiative for self-sufficiency in hi-tech semiconductor manufacturing :

There was a time when India used to take pride in it's own high technology manufacturing companies like 'Semiconductor Limited', that manufactured chips in it's iconic chip making plant in Chandigar, India.

Such companies stagnated , and today USA, South Korea and Japan are the largest manufacturers of semiconductors with an estimated trillion dollar global turnover in the domain of electronic industry .The industrial segment is further expanding in leaps and bounds with greater focus on Robotics, IoT and Artificial Intelligence .

However , the Indian government has now taken it up seriously and has decided to set up a high powered committee to facilitate investments in the field of high- technology manufacturing, including semiconductors.

The chairman of the 10 member committee will be the minister of commerce & industry. The panel that will facilitate investment and production will comprise eminent industry leaders like N Chandrashekharan, Chairman Tata Sons, Pawan Goenka , Managing Director and CEO Mahindra Group, Baba Kalyani, Chairman , Bharat Forge etc. The panel also includes Mr Angshuman Tripathi, an expert in the field of semiconductor.
The empowered committee will conduct meetings where the secretaries in various key government departments, including economic affairs, revenue, expenditure and sponsoring etc., will be actively involved

Cybersecurity and Cryptography:

Cyber security is needed to protect devices and systems from unauthorized access and surreptitious intrusions. It is a major concern for the Internet and the systems based or built on it.

Cyber warfare and cyber crime can cause large scale cumulative devastation , leading to wide ranging loss of mutual trust and credibility between clients, associates and service provideturs.

Cyber attacks can be in the form of hack, where an intruder/attacker can take away valuable data e.g. credit card information, or intellectual property, which may even include design of a company's next product or other sensitive information.

Cyber attacks can also take the form of distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS).
In DDoS the attacker compromises the security and safety of a target by flooding it with requests from multiple systems.

Major reason behind cyber vulnerabilities:

Even today adequate care and attention towards security are not given when computer systems and software applications are designed .The Domain Name System (DNS), for instance, is not always designed with complete attention to security .

Implementation of cyber security involves software, hardware as well as human initiative components.

Human initiative needs to be taken for implementing policies such as carefully choosing strong passwords and being careful not to divulge them. Software needs to be regularly updated to fix its vulnerabilities. Incorporation of strong antivirus software and firewalls can effectively help prevent unauthorized access to private data.

The role of Cryptography :

Cryptography and its innovative application are essential to most cyber security models. Cryptography applies algorithms to arrange the bits that represent data. It can be done in a way only authorized users can rearrange them to obtain the original data. Cryptographic algorithms use mathematics to achieve effective shuffling and rearrangements.
The algorithms are known and published for most common Cryptographic standards, but deft application of mathematics make it impractical to decode the shuffled bits.

Open standards ensures security of cryptography. Symmetric encryption involves the same key For both encryption and decryption, symmetric encryption involves the same key.

On the other hand , public key encryption, is not symmetric. It is an encryption method that is widely used because of the better security associated with it. Certificate authorities (CAs) issue digital certificates that validate the ownership of encrypted keys by issuing digitak used in secured communication and are based on a trust model.

E-Justice & Information technology :

E-justice is considered as an integral part and as an organ of e-governance.
The Indian judiciary comprises 15,000 courts in 2500 court complexes. Steps towards computerization have been taken since 1990.

However in the recent times, the computerization of courts have become part of the Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the National e-Governance Plan. It proposes a phase-wise implementation of information and communication technology, over a period of five years. The objective and scope of the project is to develop and implement automated decision making and support systems in the courts.

The main objectives of the MMP are as follows:
* To streamline the day to day activities of the judicial administration of courts.
* Assist judicial administration by way of reducing pendency of cases.
* Providing litigants with transparency of information.
* To provide access of legal and judicial databases for the judges.

The project is expected to ensure online availability of judgments, cause lists etc.(after proper implementation), e-filing of cases and delivering notices to the email IDs of clients.
The implementation of the project was initiated in December 2004 and a national policy and action plan were formulated by the e-Committee. So far, 700 courts in metro cities and 900 courts in capital cities, barring North East, Ahmadabad and Patna, have been covered.
Ex*****on of the project in 2100 court complexes has been approved by the cabinet, with Rs. 442 crores being granted for the implementation of the project in a period of 2 years. The work is being carried out by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The overall guidance is given by the e-Committee.
This will ensure online availability of the status of pending cases from every court—including both the cause list and the case details. It will also help courts to instantly issue digitally certified copies. In every court building for the filing of cases and the issuance of certified copies and case information, facilitation centres will be formed. This in turn will help citizens report cases and obtain information without hassle.
