প্লাস্টিক সার্জন ডাঃ প্রেমা ধনরাজ, এবছর পদ্মশ্রী সম্মানে ভূষিত হলেন। যদিও আজকের এই সফলতার পিছনে আছে এক করুণ কাহিনী। যখন তাঁর মাত্র ৮ বছর বয়স তখন একদিন কফি বানাতে গিয়ে স্টোভ ফেটে মুখের প্রায় অর্ধেক অংশ পুড়ে যায়। প্রায় যমে মানুষে টানাটানির উপক্রম। তাঁর মা সেই সময়ে ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করেন, তাঁর মেয়ে সুস্থ হয়ে উঠলে তাকে ভবিষ্যতে ঈশ্বরের সন্তানদের সেবায় নিয়োজিত করবেন। তাকে একজন ডাক্তার তৈরি করে ওই হাসপাতালেই রোগীর সেবায় নিয়োজিত করবেন।

প্রেমাকে সুস্থ করে তোলা ডাক্তারদের কাছে একটা বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ ছিল। তাঁর মুখের পোড়া অংশ সারিয়ে তোলার সময় প্রচণ্ড যন্ত্রণা হোত। ডাক্তারদের ওপর রেগে যেতেন। ডাক্তারদের শুধু নয়, হাসপাতালের সাদা দেওয়াল সহ্য করতে পারতেন না। ডাক্তাররা অনেক বুঝিয়ে তাকে চিকিৎসার জন্য রাজি করাতেন। প্রায় ৬ মাস হাসপাতালে থেকে চিকিৎসা করার পর নিজের শহর বেঙ্গালুরুতে ফেরেন। কিন্তু তাঁর মুখের ক্ষতর জন্য স্কুলে আর স্বাভাবিকভাবে যেতে পারছিলেন না বলে প্রাইভেটে স্কুল ফাইনাল পরীক্ষায় পাশ করেন ।

প্রেমা ধনরাজ জানান, আমার পরিবারের লোকেরা আমার থেকে আয়না লুকিয়ে রাখতেন, পাছে আমি আমার মুখ দেখতে পাই। আমি কাঁদতাম, রেগে যেতাম, চিৎকার করতাম। সব সময় আমার পাশে ছিলেন আমার মা। অভয় দিতেন, সাহস যোগাতেন, চোখের জল মোছাতেন। বলতেন, এটা তোমার মুখ। কেউ তা পাল্টাতে পারবে না। কিন্তু তোমার জীবন তোমার হাতে। একে কীভাবে চালাবে সেই সিদ্ধান্ত একান্তই তোমার। এরপর পড়াশোনা নিয়ে এগোতে থাকেন। পাশাপাশি চলতে থাকে তাঁর চিকিৎসাও। বি এসসি করার পর এমবিবিএস পাশ করে তিনি যে চিকিৎসক তাঁর চিকিৎসা করেছিলেন তাঁর সঙ্গেই প্রথম কাজ শুরু করেন। তিনি প্লাস্টিক সার্জারি এবং রিকনস্ট্রাকশন সার্জারিতে স্পেশালাইজেশন করেন। এতদিনে তাঁর মায়ের সেই স্বপ্ন হোক বা ঈশ্বরের কাছে করা শপথ হোক তা পূরণ হল। একজন সফল সার্জেন হিসেবে তাঁর পরিচিতি পেতে সময় লাগেনি। স্বীকৃতি স্বরূপ পেয়েছেন বহু পুরস্কার। আর এবার তাঁর মুকুটে যুক্ত হল দেশের সবচেয়ে বড় সম্মান পদ্মশ্রী। যদিও এখন তিনি মনে করেন, সেদিনের সেই দুর্ঘটনা না ঘটলে হয়তো তাঁর জীবন খুব সাধারণ খাতেই বয়ে যেত। আর মা শিখিয়েছিলেন কীভাবে নেগেটিভ ভাবনাকে পজিটিভ ভাবনায় পরিণত করা যায়। তাঁর মতে, সব সুন্দর জিনিস ভাল হয়না কিন্তু সব ভাল জিনিসই সুন্দর। এমন মহিলাকে কুর্নিশ জানাতেই হয়।

The Introduction of Rakhi Utsab in Bengal was done by Rabindranath Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore, a visionary poet and philosopher, left an unforgettable mark on Indian culture. Among his many contributions, he introduced Rakhi, a festival celebrating sibling love, to Bengal.

In the early 1900s, Tagore recognized the power of Rakhi to unite people beyond blood ties. He organized the first Rakhi Mahotsav at Shantiniketan, emphasizing its potential to bridge gaps and promote unity. Tagore's gesture of tying rakhis on diverse wrists transformed Rakhi into a symbol of collective harmony. His innovation added a deeper meaning to the festival, teaching us that bonds of love can transcend boundaries.
As an attempt to unify people against the imperialist forces, Rabindranath Tagore called upon Hindus and Muslims to tie rakhis on each other's wrists as a symbolic gesture. Hundreds showed up with rakhis following Tagore's call, in towns and cities like Kolkata, Chittagong, Dhaka, and Rangpur.

Today, as we celebrate Rakhi, we honor Tagore's legacy – a reminder that tradition can inspire unity and positive change.
