Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost

Clock Speed: The 650 Ti tops out at 925MHz, the TiB is clocked at 980MHz, an increase of 6%. The TiB supports Nvidia's GPU Boost technology (the Ti doesn't) and will increase its clock speed up to 1033MHz if thermal headroom allows it to do so, for a total increase of 11.6%.
Core Count: Both chips have 768 shader cores and 64 texture mapping units (TMUs). The Nvidia GTX 650 Ti has 16 raster operators (ROPs), however, while the GTX 650 TiB has 24. This means the new GTX 650 Ti Boost's pixel fillrate is 23.5 GPixels per second, compared to 14.8 GPps for the GTX 650 Ti.
Multi-GPU Support: The GTX 650 Ti doesn't support multi-GPU configurations. The GTX 650 Ti Boost does.
Memory Bandwidth: The GTX 650 Ti has a 128-bit memory bus clocked at 1350MHz, for a total of 86.4GBps of memory bandwidth. The GTX 650 TiB has a 192-bit memory bus clocked at 1500MHz, for a total of 144.2GBps of RAM bandwidth. That's 1.67x what the GTX 650 offers.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost

Just days after AMD released the HD Radeon 7790 built on a new iteration of the company's Graphics Core Next architecture, Nvidia has released its own new graphics card for the mainstream market—the Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost. From our tests, it shows itself to be a potent challenger for AMD's new GPU. The new GTX 650 Ti Boost borrows capabilities and performance from the up-market GTX 660. The end result is a great consumer card at the same price point the GTX 650 Ti formerly occupied. It's our new Editors' Choice for mainstream graphics cards.

Wireless security cameras

Today a lot of people also choose wireless security cameras for home surveillance. They don’t require video cable for transmission, just a power cable, and they are very easy and inexpensive. While the previous generation of such cameras relied on analog technology, the modern ones use digital technology that allows for better audio and video, and a secure and interference-free signal.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) System

The difference between CCTV and broadcast television is that in the case of CCTV the signal isn’t openly transmitted. However, it may use P2P or mesh wireless links. Despite the fact that almost any video camera can fit this definition, the term “CCTV” is usually applied to the cameras used for surveillance in areas that need attention – for example, banks, airports, casinos or convenience stores. While videotelephony isn’t often called so, the video used for distance education is usually called CCTV.

CCTV equipment is widely used in industrial plants, providing the opportunity to observe parts of a process from a central control room. This is especially convenient when the environment isn’t suitable for humans. Such systems may work continuously or at certain periods of time – to monitor a particular event, for instance. Meanwhile, there is a more advanced form of CCTV, which uses Digital Video Recorders (DVRs). It allows recording for many years, offering many quality and performance options and additional features, including motion detection and email alerts. Now decentralized IP-based CCTV cameras with megapixel sensors allow recording directly to either network-attached storage devices or internal flash, which means that they can operate in a stand-alone mode.

Surveillance of the public with the help of CCTV is common in many areas throughout the globe. The leader is the United Kingdom: according to the reports, there are more cameras per person in the UK than in any other country. However, the increasing use of CCTV has led to a debate about security versus privacy.

New app turns smartphone into 3D scanner

LONDON: Scientists have developed an app that allows an ordinary smartphone to capture and display three-dimensional models of real-world objects.

Instead of taking a normal photograph, a user simply moves the phone around the object of interest and after a few motions, a 3D model appears on the screen.

The technology also allows the 3D capture of faces, giving a third dimension to portraits, profile pictures or images of loved ones.

Marc Pollefeys, professor at the Institute for Visual Computing and his group at ETH Zurich developed a software that works with existing smartphone technology that allows the user to scan a 3D model almost as easy as taking a photograph.

As the user keeps moving, additional images are recorded automatically and used to extend the 3D model.

As all calculations are performed directly on the phone, the user gets immediate feedback and can select additional viewpoints to cover missing parts of the 3D model.

"This is an important advantage compared to solutions that batch process all the images in the cloud at a later time," said Pollefeys.

The app also makes it possible to visualise the state of the 3D scan from different viewing angles, allowing the user to cover all the areas of the object he is interested in.

Having a solution on a mobile phone enables the acquisition of 3D scans on-the-fly anywhere.

The approach works in a wide variety of settings, including low-light conditions such as inside a museum. A user can capture a 3D model of a museum piece and interactively study it at home later.

After reviewing the model, a user might decide to upload his 3D data to a cloud service to further refine the results.

By using the inertial sensors of the phone, the scanning process can be made simple, intuitive and robust. After the 3D capture is started, the system automatically determines the correct moments to extract camera images based on the user motion.

"Only two years ago, such a software only run on massive computers. We were able to shrink processes down on smartphone level and make them highly efficient," said Pollefeys.

Contrary to image-only 3D capture solutions, the app is able to determine the absolute size of the scanned 3D object, as well as the vertical direction.

Because of the complexity of the calculations needed to reconstruct hundreds of thousands of points, the graphics co-processor (GPU) of the phone is used to enable a faster reconstruction and increase interactivity for the user.

Having a convenient way of getting 3D models of everyday objects, users will now be able to copy real-world objects by scanning a full 360 degree model of an object.

The resulting 3D model can be used for visualisation or augmented reality applications, or even be used for 3D printing, potentially at a remote location, effectively enabling the user to replicate an object.

Internet and Computer Safety
If you are in danger, please try to use a safer computer that someone abusive does not have direct or remote (hacking) access to.

If you think your activities are being monitored, they probably are. Abusive people are often controlling and want to know your every move. You don’t need to be a computer programmer or have special skills to monitor someone’s computer and Internet activities — anyone can do it and there are many ways to monitor with programs like Spyware, keystroke loggers and hacking tools.

It is not possible to delete or clear all the “footprints” of your computer or online activities. If you are being monitored, it may be dangerous to change your computer behaviors such as suddenly deleting your entire Internet history if that is not your regular habit.

If you think you may be monitored on your home computer, be careful how you use your computer since an abuser might become suspicious. You may want to keep using the monitored computer for innocuous activities, like looking up the weather. Use a safer computer to research an escape plan, look for new jobs or apartments, bus tickets, or ask for help.

Email and Instant/Text Messaging (IM) are not safe or confidential ways to talk to someone about the danger or abuse in your life. If possible, please call a hotline instead. If you use email or IM, please use a safer computer and an account your abuser does not know about.

Computers can store a lot of private information about what you look at via the Internet, the emails and instant messages you send, internet-based phone and IP-TTY calls you make, web-based purchases and banking, and many other activities.

It might be safer to use a computer in a public library, at a community technology center (CTC) at a trusted friend’s house, or an Internet Café.

Cleaning tools

Although many companies have created products to help improve the process of cleaning your computer and peripherals, users can also use household items to clean their computers and peripherals. Below is a listing of items you may need or want to use while cleaning your computer or computer peripherals.

Keep in mind that some components in your computer may only be able to be cleaned using a product designed for cleaning that component; if this is the case, it will be mentioned in the cleaning tips.

Cloth - A cloth is the best tool used when rubbing down a component; although paper towels can be used with most hardware, we recommend using a cloth when ever possible. Caution: We only suggest you use a cloth when cleaning components such as the outside of the case, a drive, mouse, etc. You should not use a cloth to clean any circuitry such as the RAM or motherboard since they can generate ESD that can damage electronics.

Water or rubbing alcohol - When moistening a cloth, it is best to use water or rubbing alcohol. Other solvents may be bad for the plastics used with your computer.

Portable Vacuum - Sucking the dust, dirt, hair, cigarette particles, and other particles out of a computer can be one of the best methods of cleaning a computer. Over time, these items can restrict the airflow in a computer and cause circuitry to corrode. Do not use a standard vacuum as it can generate a lot of static electricity that can damage your computer.

Cotton swabs - Cotton swaps moistened with rubbing alcohol or water are excellent tools for wiping hard to reach areas in your keyboard, mouse, and other locations.
Foam swabs - Whenever possible, it is better to use lint-free swabs such as foam swabs.

1GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300,
1GB refers to the size of the memory
240-pin refers to the number of pins used to connect to the motherboard
DIMM- Dual In-line Memory Module
SIMM- Single In-line Memory Module
DDR2 refers to the type of memory
PC2-5300 refers to the module type

Some other pieces of information you might find in a RAM description are:

Clock frequency-refers to speed of the RAM in MHz (800MHz)
CAS (Column Address Strobe) Latency-refers to the number of clock cycles that elapse from the time the request for data is sent to the actual memory location until the data is transmitted from the module. This is represented by a set of 4 numbers also known as RAM timing (4-4-4-12). These numbers stand for:
TCL - CAS Latency Time
Trcd - DRAM RAS # to CAS # Delay
Trp - DRAM RAS # Precharge
Tras - Precharge delay

Normally the BIOS will allow a user to adjust RAM timing to increase performance and stability.

Best Online Support for Your Phone

Having a great smart phone is important to many people, and this is especially true for business professionals. A great smart phone is an essential tool when it comes to communication, organization, and productivity. Even more important than having a good phone, however, is having good online support for a phone. It is normal for a phone to occasionally experience an issue, and it is normal for a phone user to have questions or concerns regarding their phone. Therefore, online support for a smart phone is an essential service. There are a few resources for online support for smart phones.

Support through the manufacturer

Support through the phone’s manufacturer is certainly the best online support for a smart phone. BlackBerry’s online service is one prime example. There are many BlackBerry.com business phone services that users can easily access. This type of online support can answer specific questions about any model of BlackBerry phones. Users can also find solutions to technical problems via the online support system. Manufacturer websites are the most secure and comprehensive source when it comes to online support for a phone.

Support through the wireless service provider

In some cases, phone users can receive support through the wireless service provider. Service providers can provide some types of support, but in most cases it is best to go to the manufacturer first. Service providers can answer questions about an account, billing issue, and other issues of that nature. Many wireless service providers have online support, but some companies do require customers to call in.

Any smart phone user knows that having a properly working phone is very important, and having great support for a phone makes this possible. Make the most of the online support available for troubleshooting (as well as of your own common sense), and your phone will always be top notch.
