79 years of independence. It is worth taking a moment to look at what India has built since 1947.
India's economy is now around $4.15 trillion, and the IMF projects 6.5% real GDP growth for 2026. We have moved from a newly independent economy to one of the world's major economic powers.
But GDP is only one part of the story.
We built UPI, which has become the world's largest real-time payment system by transaction volume. In FY 2025-26, UPI processed more than 241 billion transactions, compared with just 20 million in FY 2016-17.
Our innovation ecosystem has changed dramatically too. India ranked 6th globally for patent applications in 2023, with 64,480 applications, and resident filings accounted for more than half for the first time.
And then there is space.
India became the first country to land near the Moon's south pole with Chandrayaan-3 and, in 2025, became the fourth country to successfully demonstrate space docking technology.
These achievements show something important about what India is capable of building at scale.
Now comes the harder part.
The next 21 years should be about turning that scale into higher productivity, world-class manufacturing, deeper technology and AI capabilities, more globally competitive companies, better jobs, stronger education and healthcare, and continued innovation.
We have 21 years to see what India can become by 2047.
