Twenty-one years ago I left the sea and started a software company in Goa.

People thought I was mad. A Master Mariner with no development background, starting a technology company in a city not known for technology, with a team of people I had to train from scratch.

They were probably right.

But here is what I knew — and what I still believe — that most people in this industry do not talk about enough.

Offshoring is not a transaction. It is a relationship.

At eDOT, we’ve spent 21 years building long-term partnerships based on trust, consistency, and accountability. We’ve delivered even when projects stopped being profitable — because our word mattered more.

Today, our 70-member team in Goa works with clients across industries, backed by ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 21001, and ClassNK-certified platforms.

Most importantly, many of the same people who started this journey with us in 2004 are still here today.

We’re looking to build new international partnerships with agencies and technology companies that value reliability, quality, and long-term collaboration.

Not a vendor. A partner.

Every Site Has Cameras. Not Every Site Has Intelligence.

A refinery does not forgive mistakes. Neither does a vessel deck at 0200 in bad weather.

We know both environments. We started with the second one.

eVa SMARTeYe was built for maritime — because the sea is where we come from, and because shipboard conditions are among the most demanding environments any safety technology can face. Vibration. Salt air. Limited connectivity. Crew fatigue. Rotating watchkeepers. No IT department standing by.

If AI-powered safety monitoring works reliably there, it works anywhere.

Which is why eVa SMARTeYe now runs in refineries, oil and gas facilities, power plants, steel mills, chemical plants, and offshore industrial sites — using the cameras already installed, without complex integration, without operational disruption.

What it does is straightforward. It watches continuously — for PPE non-compliance, restricted zone breaches, unsafe behaviour, fatigue indicators, and access violations. It flags what matters. It sends only the exceptions to the people who need to act on them.

What it builds over time is more valuable. Recurring risk patterns. Operations that consistently carry higher incident probability. Training gaps that show up in the data before they show up in an accident report.

The question we keep asking ourselves — and the question we would ask every industrial site manager — is a simple one:

Your cameras are recording everything. What are they preventing?

CCTV has been on ships for decades. It has recorded thousands of incidents. It has prevented almost none of them.

That is not a criticism of the technology. It is a statement about how it has been used — as evidence, not as intelligence.

eVa SMARTeYe changes that.

We built it to work with the cameras already onboard your vessels. No new infrastructure. No satellite video streaming. No expensive hardware overhaul. The AI runs onboard, analyses what the cameras see in real time, and sends only the exceptions ashore — a PPE violation, a fatigue indicator, an unsafe act at the gangway, a mooring watch concern.

Your crew's privacy is protected. Their footage never leaves the vessel. Only what matters reaches you.

And what reaches you is not just an alert. Over time, it becomes a pattern. Which operations carry the highest risk. Which vessels need targeted training. Where the next incident is most likely to happen — before it does.

This is what the maritime industry has needed for a long time. Not more cameras. Not more footage to review after the fact. Intelligence that works before the incident, not after it.

$1 per day. Per ship.

We built it at this price deliberately. Because the argument that safety technology is too expensive for shipping companies earning $20,000 to $300,000 a day is one we refuse to accept.

Safer voyages. Smarter monitoring.

A seafarer’s safety should never depend on what a company can afford.

I have sailed for 16 years. I have boarded thousands of ships in the 22 years since.

As head of operations handling iron ore and coal, and later as CEO of eDOT Solutions, I have witnessed accidents that should never have happened. I have seen families left with questions that have no good answers.

Why didn't he wear a helmet? Why wasn't the fire detected sooner? Why didn't the ship turn faster when they said he went overboard?

These are not abstract safety statistics. These are real people. Real families. Real grief.

And then there are the thousands of smaller incidents — minor injuries, major claims — that shipowners and their insurers pay out in millions every year. Quietly. Routinely. As if it is simply the cost of doing business at sea.

It is not acceptable to me. It never has been.

For ships earning $20,000 to $300,000 a day, the idea that a company cannot find the budget for crew safety technology — when that technology costs the equivalent of a cup of tea per day per ship — does not make sense. It has never made sense.

That is the reason eVa SMARTeYe exists.

It works with cameras already onboard. No new hardware. No expensive satellite video. No complicated installation. Real-time AI monitoring for PPE compliance, fatigue, unsafe behaviour, confined space entry — running continuously, because humans cannot watch everything, every watch, every night.

$1 a day. Per ship.

If that number does not make a shipping company pause and act — I genuinely do not know what will.

Every seafarer deserves to come home. That is not a slogan. For me, after 38 years in and around this industry, it is personal.
