What moved us most about this museum is the care taken to preserve stories that may otherwise have remained in archives and family history.

🎨 Long before Holi became the subject of phone galleries, it was already showing up in art. The British holds a gouache painting from circa 1750 that depicts a raja in a garden with attendants and musicians, all playing Holi as a courtly spring scene.

That’s what makes feel enduring: even in a courtly garden scene from centuries ago, the feeling is instantly recognizable. Music in the background, a crowd gathering close, and colours achieving what words can’t.
