Connected vehicles are quietly rewriting how cars move, sense, and talk to the world around them.
When a vehicle can share real time information with other vehicles and with the infrastructure around it (traffic signals, road sensors, work zones, and more), something powerful happens. Cars gain a kind of shared awareness. They can coordinate merges, smooth out traffic flow, warn each other about hazards well before a driver could ever see them, and make roads safer across a wide range of everyday situations, not just avoiding collisions.
That is the promise of vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication. But there is a catch worth paying attention to.
Every new connection point is also a potential entry point for an attacker.
Pankit Desai, CEO & Co-Founder of Sequretek, makes the case clearly in a recent feature in Business Line: V2V can genuinely strengthen autonomous and connected mobility, but only if the system behind it can actually be trusted. Awareness and coordination are only as good as the security and integrity of the data flowing between vehicles.
So what does trustworthy V2V actually require? According to Pankit, it comes down to getting the fundamentals right:
Standardized protocols so vehicles and infrastructure speak the same secure language. Strong encryption to protect the information in transit. Authentication so every vehicle knows it is talking to a legitimate counterpart, not an impostor. Disciplined credential management, because trust breaks the moment credentials are mishandled. Rigorous testing before these systems ever hit public roads. Local processing at the edge so critical decisions do not wait on a distant server. And safe fallback behavior for the moments when signals are compromised or simply unreliable.
