Our goal was to build a hospitality brand rooted in modern India without relying on familiar cultural tropes, while remaining relevant to a global audience. A place for a new generation of Indians to find community and kinship. A place where Indians return to for connection, comfort and belonging. Something that ties all us Indians together.

in good co draws from the familiar phrase in good company and the idea of India’s good coffee, positioning the café as a space for connection, conversation and community.
The “co” was intentionally designed as a multi-layered device; standing for Company, Coffee, Conversations, Community and Collective capturing the many roles a neighbourhood café can play. It also creates a flexible naming architecture that can adapt to different locations, from In Good Company of GK2 to In Good Company of Gangtok, while keeping the brand identity intact.

Our mnemonic and wordmark was custom drawn. The knot motif in the letterforms of the mnemonic is the defining characteristic.
More than a visual detail, the knot represents the heart of “in good co”: community, connection, and the relationships that are formed over shared meals and conversations.

Before ideas become strategies, they begin as observations.

Places we return to.
Conversations we overhear.
Objects we stop noticing.
Rituals we repeat every day.

In the latest essay for the LOCAL™ Blog, researcher Dhanya Rajagopal reflects on India’s evolving third places and why spaces that invite people to gather matter more than ever today.

Because understanding how people live is often the first step to designing brands that belong.

Every brand is shaped twice.

First through observation, research and strategy.
Then through design.

The visible identity is only the final expression of a much larger body of thinking—understanding people, context, culture, operations and the realities a brand will grow within.

A brief look into the process behind how we build brands at LOCAL (wedesignlocal.com).

Two years of keeping us on track. ✨

A systems engineer by training, a writer-dancer-explorer at heart and a project manager by (our lucky) choice, she's brought structure, clarity, and calm to every project she’s been on.

Calm on the surface, paddling frantically below - we’ve seen her grow from strength to strength.

Happy 2 years to our inhouse cultural observer, Here’s to lesser fires and calmer seas!

Blue feels strangely familiar in India.

It’s the colour of our skies, our coastlines, our sporting ambitions, and countless everyday objects that quietly shape the places we inhabit.
Over months of walks, travels and observations, our team began documenting the many blues we encountered along the way.

A few sightings from the archive.

in good co - LOCAL𝒾𝓈ℯ𝒹.

For nearly two years, existed across workshops, research studies, design reviews and countless conversations.

Last week, it opened its doors.

The launch brought together the teams behind the project, the leadership at , and voices from across branding, hospitality, design, and culture.

From unveiling the space to conversations with .mohanty , , , , Caleb L., and many others who joined us through the day, the occasion reflected the scale of ambition behind the brand.

What stood out most wasn’t the launch itself.
It was watching people begin to inhabit the space — gathering, meeting, lingering, and making it their own.

A good project.
In good company.
