An exclusive study by HirePro, a tech-enabled hiring platform, shows that a large number of firms, across sectors such as as IT/ITes, BFSI, services, FMCG and retail, ecommerce, telecom, manufacturing, healthcare and education, are adopting e-recruiting process as it saves cost, reduces time taken, as well as opens up a much wider talent pool.

For hiring at junior, middle and senior levels, 85-90% of the process continues to be partially-to mostly-to full remote. Only in campus hiring, one-fourth of the organisations continue to have limited-to-no remote processes.

Meta (formerly Facebook) and Microsoft are giving up office facilities in Seattle and Bellevue in Washington, US. The decision comes days after Twitter followed a similar move to cut expenses amid uncertain macroeconomic conditions. According to the Seattle Times, Facebook's parent, Meta, confirmed its plans to sublease offices in downtown Seattle and Bellevue, respectively. Facebook's head office is located in Menlo Park, California.

Meta and Microsoft are giving up offices as several employees prefer remote work options. Both companies are also facing heat amid global economic slowdown.

The 5G rollout is driving demand for tech talent in the telecom sector, and cybersecurity specialists, cloud computing experts, and networking engineers are expected to be the most sought-after profiles.

User experience designers and data science professionals are also among the in-demand profiles, according to staffing company NLB Services.

Opportunities are surfacing in sectors like video content, private 5G for businesses, IoT/IIoT, mobility, network infrastructure, and security, says Sachin Alug, chief executive at NLB Services. Demand is on the higher side for mid-level professionals with four to eight years of experience, he adds.

The demand for technology talent in the telecom and allied sectors surged 15-20% last year, and this number is set to touch a record high of 25-30% this year.

Non-telecom sectors like healthcare, retail, auto and manufacturing are also looking for tech talent, with data scientists and cyber security emerging as key profiles in this space.

Tech giant Microsoft is all set to fuel space tech startups in India. At the future-ready technology summit 2023, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella showcased several cloud-based and AI-powered projects and also revealed its plans to foster Indian startups in the space tech domain.

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) to fuel space tech startups using technology tools and platforms.

With this partnership, Microsoft will help ISRO to strengthen its vision towards getting the most out of space tech startups in the country. Microsoft will work closely with the startups identified by ISRO and will onboard those companies to it Startup Founders Hub platform to support them at every stage.

Tech Companies Keep Slashing Jobs in Uncertain 2023 Economy

The tech industry is slashing jobs at a pace nearing the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. In November, the most recent month for which data is available, the sector announced 52,771 cuts, for a total of 80,978 this year, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. It was the highest monthly total for the industry since the firm started keeping data in 2000.

After a bumpy start to the pandemic in 2020, tech companies benefited from a boom in e-commerce spending and remote work boomed, triggering a hiring spree. Now, things look different. In recent earnings reports, Alphabet Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Microsoft Corp. and others missed estimates, sending shares plunging. For Amazon.com Inc. and Salesforce Inc., the outlook seems to be worsening as they pursue deeper layoffs at the start of 2023. Other companies are reckoning with volatile cryptocurrency markets or a sudden slump in demand.
