For two weeks, from 31 August to 15 September 2026, a humanoid helped passengers at Umeda and Tanimachi-kyuchome stations on Osaka Metro. It was built by AVITA, the Tokyo company founded by robotics researcher Hiroshi Ishiguro, together with KDDI.

We look at why Osaka Metro tried again after its earlier guide robot, ugo, responded to passengers more than 6,000 times at Umeda in 2025 but needed better answers, what the humanoid could do, from transfer guidance and nearby attractions to multilingual help and route information by QR code, and how AVITA says its Gemini-based conversation system picks up speech speed, intonation and emotion in real time.

India’s next space milestone isn’t just another mission, it’s permanent infrastructure.

The Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) will be India’s first indigenous space station, but its real significance goes far beyond a laboratory in orbit.

BAS is designed to give India the capabilities needed for long-duration human spaceflight, advanced scientific research, robotic operations, orbital docking, in-space refuelling, and future lunar missions.

With the first module targeted for 2028 and the complete five-module station planned by 2035, BAS marks India’s transition from executing individual space missions to building the infrastructure required to live, research and operate in space.

This is the engineering foundation for India’s Space
Vision 2047.

Every Earth imaging satellite has had to choose: an optical camera that clouds block, or radar that works through cloud but takes a specialist to read. GalaxEye built one that does not choose.

Founded in 2021 by five engineers from IIT Madras, the Bengaluru startup developed OptoSAR, which carries a multispectral camera and an X band radar on one platform, pointed at the same ground in the same instant. According to the company, no satellite anywhere had flown both as a single payload before.
Its first satellite, Drishti, weighed 190 kilograms and launched in May 2026. One platform means one matched image, not two files stitched together from passes days apart. For flood response and crop monitoring, that timing is the point.

The method is now patented, with thirty more satellites planned over five years.
