FINAL COUNT DOWN TO FACEBOOK'S IPO BEGINS:

After all the buildup, Facebook's long-anticipated initial public offering is finally here.

Facebook stock is set to begin trading with the stock symbol FB on the Nasdaq Stock Market at 11 a.m. ET. That means Wall Street will have an hour and a half after the market normally opens at 9:30 to prepare for what is expected to be a deluge of Facebook-centered trading activity today. See a livestream of the Facebook launch at Nasdaq.

"Having Facebook operating as a public company is very important in terms of really gauging the role of social media," said Ezra Gottheil, an analyst with Technology Business Research. "We will really get to see how Facebook, the dominant social medium, is performing. How much money they can earn is a reflection of their value in the economic world."

On Thursday, Facebook set its initial share price at $38. With the company offering 421 million shares, it could raise upwards of $18.5 billion in its IPO .

The company now has a valuation of about $104 billion.

Facebook employees welcomed the IPO with an all-night hackathon last night in its Menlo Park, Calif., offices, the BBC reported.

While the IPO is an important milestone for Facebook and its 28-year-old co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, it's also a bellwether for the entire social networking world.

Facebook is the largest social network in the world, with about 900 million active monthly users. According to Experian Hitwise, Facebook became the top-ranked Web site in the U.S. in March 2010. One in every five page views in the U.S. is on Facebook.

If Facebook's IPO is wildly successful, other social networks, such as Twitter, are likely to gain with more investor backing. However, if investors aren't as eager as expected to buy Facebook shares, or if they buy shares and the price drops in the coming months, the likelihood of IPOs from other social networks companies becomes more tenuous

How to manually remove virus
from computer
Till now many of the people think
that without an antivirus we
can’t delete a virus. It’s not we
can delete some virus manually.
To do this you must know some
tips to roots to execute the
known thing. Here we give a
brief description about how we
can delete a virus manually.
Follow some steps that we given
in below to done it well.
Image

1. Start your computer in safe
mode.
2. If you know where the virus is
hiding, delete the executable file.

3. Open the registry and go to
the keys below and add an : in
front of the value of the string
that you think it’s the virus. Like
this, if string is "virus" and its
value is "c:\virus.exe" changes its
value to ":c:\virus.exe". This is like
commenting out the value. But if
you are sure it’s the virus you can
just delete the string.
Here are the keys you maybe
want to look at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\RunServicesOnce HKEY_
CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
\Microsoft\Windows
\CurrentVersion\Runonce
4. The virus can start itself from
some other places to. win.ini is
the most common files that
viruses can use. So you should
find the files named win.ini and
system.ini and look through
them and see if you find
anything.
5. : Look through the startup
folder that is normally located in
your profile directory \Start Menu
\Programs\Startup.
6. Try searching for the virus
executable to see if its hiding
some other place.
7. Finally look through the list of
services that windows are
running. This list is often located
under control panel -
administrative tools – services
After the competition of this
given 7 steps you can reboot
your system and find any of the
viruses are still in action in no,
then success if not then you can
go back and do this 7 steps
again to remove. The only
problem of this method is, it still
works only for a few set of
viruses. Mainly for the viruses
which make your computers CPU
usage to very high.

Computer viruses
able to affect
humans?
A scientist at the
University of Reading
has become the first
person in the world to
be infected by a
computer virus.
Dr Mark Gasson, from
the School of Systems
Engineering,
contaminated a
computer chip which
had been inserted into
his hand as part of
research into human
enhancement and the
potential risks of
implantable devices.
These results could
have huge implications
for implantable
computing technologies
used medically to
improve health, such as
heart pacemakers and
cochlear implants, and
as new applications are
found to enhance
healthy humans.
Dr Gasson says that as
the technology behind
these implants
develops, they become
more vulnerable to
computer viruses.
"Our research shows
that implantable
technology has
developed to the point
where implants are
capable of
communicating, storing
and manipulating data,"
he said. "They are
essentially mini
computers. This means
that, like mainstream
computers, they can be
infected by viruses and
the technology will need
to keep pace with this
so that implants,
including medical
devices, can be safely
used in the future."
Dr Gasson will present
his results next month
at the IEEE International
Symposium on
Technology and Society
in Australia, which he is
also chairing.
A high-end Radio
Frequency Identification
(RFID) chip was
implanted into Dr
Gasson's left hand last
year. Less sophisticated
RFID technology is used
in shop security tags to
prevent theft and to
identify missing pets.
The chip has allowed
him secure access to
his University building
and his mobile phone. It
has also enabled him to
be tracked and profiled.
Once infected, the chip
corrupted the main
system used to
communicate with it.
Should other devices
have been connected to
the system, the virus
would have been
passed on.
Dr Gasson said: "By
infecting my own
implant with a
computer virus we have
demonstrated how
advanced these
technologies are
becoming and also had a
glimpse at the problems
of tomorrow.
"Much like people with
medical implants, after
a year of having the
implant, I very much
feel that it is part of
my body. While it is
exciting to be the first
person to become
infected by a computer
virus in this way, I
found it a surprisingly
violating experience
because the implant is
so intimately connected
to me but the situation
is potentially out of my
control.
"I believe it is necessary
to acknowledge that
our next evolutionary
step may well mean
that we all become part
machine as we look to
enhance ourselves.
Indeed we may find
that there are
significant social
pressures to have
implantable
technologies, either
because it becomes as
much of a social norm
as say mobile phones,
or because we'll be
disadvantaged if we do
not. However we must
be mindful of the new
threats this step
brings."
