Microscopic robots may not need batteries, motors, or wires to move in the future. They may simply need light. 💡🤖

Researchers at the University of Gothenburg have developed microscopic gears, just 16-20 micrometers in diameter, roughly the size of a human cell, that rotate using nothing but laser light. By changing the laser's polarization, they can instantly reverse the direction of rotation without any physical contact.

This breakthrough tackles one of the biggest obstacles in miniaturization. At extremely small scales, conventional mechanical drive systems become impractical. Using light as both the power source and control mechanism opens the door to an entirely new generation of microscopic machines.

The potential applications are remarkable. Swarms of light-controlled microbots could function as tiny pumps, valves, and optical switches inside lab-on-a-chip systems. In the future, similar technology could enable highly targeted drug delivery, minimally invasive microsurgery, and advanced biomedical devices operating inside the human body.

Light is no longer just helping us observe the world. It's beginning to power, control, and move the machines that could transform it.

🚖🤖 Amazon's Zoox has reached a major milestone in autonomous mobility.

Zoox has become the first U.S. company authorized to operate paid robotaxis without a steering wheel or pedals, marking a significant step toward fully autonomous transportation.

The approval allows the company to deploy up to 2,500 robotaxis annually over the next two years, with enhanced safety reporting requirements in place.

With this permit, Zoox can now begin charging passengers for rides, subject to additional state and local regulatory approvals.
