You see the software.

But you rarely see what it took to build it.

Behind every simple feature is a team making hundreds of decisions.

Product teams deciding what matters.
Designers simplifying the experience.
Engineers turning ideas into reliable systems.
QA teams finding what everyone else missed.
Marketers understanding what customers actually need.

A feature might take 2 seconds to use.

But behind those 2 seconds could be weeks of research, design, development, testing, failures, fixes, feedback, and improvements.

And shipping?

Thatโ€™s not the finish line.

Once a feature goes live, the real questions begin:

Is it fast?
Is it reliable?
Does it scale?
Are customers actually using it?

Great SaaS products arenโ€™t built by code alone.

Theyโ€™re built by people who keep questioning, testing, improving, and showing up to make Version 2 better than Version 1.

Technology builds products.

People build companies.

๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐›๐ฎ๐ฒ?

For AI SaaS companies, that's the wrong binary.

The better question is:
๐–๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฐ๐ž ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ?

Use APIs when speed matters.
Use open models when control matters.

Buy proven capabilities when AI isn't your differentiation.

The smartest AI stack isn't necessarily the one with the most technology built in-house.

It's the one that knows what not to build.

If you were ๐›๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ง ๐€๐ˆ ๐’๐š๐š๐’ ๐ญ๐จ๐๐š๐ฒ, what would you own in-house?

Ranking #1 on Google may no longer be enough.

Because your next customer might not search for your SaaS.

They might ask AI which SaaS to choose.

That's a very different marketing game.

Traditional search gives buyers a list of links and lets them research.

AI can understand the question, compare options and recommend a few products directly.

Which creates a new challenge for SaaS marketers:

Can AI understand what your product does?

Does it associate your brand with the right use cases?

Does it find enough credible information about you?

And most importantly...

Does it recommend you when a buyer asks for a solution?

This is where GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, becomes interesting.

SEO focuses on getting ranked.

GEO focuses on increasing your brand's visibility and representation inside AI generated answers.

That means SaaS marketers may need to think beyond traffic, rankings and CTR.

The next dashboard could also include:

โ†’ AI mentions
โ†’ AI citations
โ†’ Recommendation visibility
โ†’ Competitor visibility

SEO isn't disappearing.

But search behavior is evolving.

The new marketing question isn't only:

"Can customers find us?"

It's becoming:

"Does AI know, trust and recommend us?"

For SaaS companies, that could become one of the most important visibility questions of the AI era.

Have you checked what ChatGPT says when someone asks for the best tools in your category?

AI's next data center may not be built on land.

It could be floating in the ocean.

Panthalassa is working on offshore computing infrastructure designed to combine wave energy, ocean cooling and AI compute at sea.

And the idea has attracted serious capital, including a $140 million Series B.

But the technology itself isn't the most interesting part of this story.

It's the problem behind it.

AI's rapid growth isn't creating demand for compute alone.

It is creating demand for:

โ†’ More electricity
โ†’ More cooling
โ†’ More infrastructure
โ†’ More places to put that infrastructure

For years, the question was:

How do we build more computing power?

AI may be changing that question to:

Where should computing power actually live?

On land?

In the ocean?

Eventually, even in space?

If projects like this work commercially, the AI race won't just be about who builds the best models.

It could also become a race to build the infrastructure capable of running them.

The next breakthrough in AI might not come from a new model.

It might come from finding a better place to run one.

Would you trust critical AI infrastructure floating in the middle of the ocean?

I thought investing more in AI would automatically create a better product.

It didn't.

The expensive lesson wasn't that AI doesn't work.

It was realizing that AI without a clear business problem is just expensive technology.

We were focused on what AI could do instead of asking what customers actually needed it to do.

That's a dangerous difference.

Here are 3 lessons I wish I had understood earlier:

1. An AI feature is not a competitive advantage.

Adding a chatbot, copilot, generator, or agent doesn't automatically create value.

If competitors can recreate the feature quickly, you haven't built a moat.

The advantage comes from the workflow, proprietary knowledge, customer experience, distribution, and reliability surrounding the AI.

2. Don't build AI first and search for the problem later.

Start with:

What repetitive problem costs the customer time or money?

Then ask whether AI is actually the best way to solve it.

Sometimes it is.

Sometimes a simpler system is better.

3. AI should improve the economics of the product.

Don't measure success only by how impressive the technology looks.

Measure:

โ†’ Time saved
โ†’ Cost reduced
โ†’ Revenue created
โ†’ Work automated
โ†’ Customer retention improved

That changed the way I think about AI products.

The goal isn't to build something that looks AI-powered.

The goal is to build something customers would hate to lose.

That's the difference between AI hype and AI value.

What do you think companies are getting wrong about AI right now?

I'd genuinely like to hear different perspectives.

"Will AI replace Software Engineers?"

That's the wrong question.

The real question is:

What kind of engineers will AI replace?

We're entering the era of Vibe Coding, where developers spend less time writing every line of code and more time describing what they want AI to build.

AI can already generate:
โ€ข CRUD applications
โ€ข API integrations
โ€ข Boilerplate code
โ€ข Documentation
โ€ข Unit tests
โ€ข Repetitive code

But there are things AI still can't replace:

โ€ข System architecture
โ€ข Security decisions
โ€ข Product thinking
โ€ข Business trade-offs
โ€ข Large-scale distributed systems
โ€ข Deep debugging

The value of an engineer is no longer measured by how fast they type code.

It's measured by:
โ€ข How well they solve problems
โ€ข How clearly they communicate with AI
โ€ข How effectively they review AI-generated code
โ€ข How intelligently they design scalable systems

The future doesn't belong to developers who compete with AI.

It belongs to developers who know how to lead AI.

What's your opinion?

Will AI create better software engineers or fewer software engineers?

Let's discuss in the comments.

Everyone is talking about AI models. Very few are talking about AI economics.

The AI industry is investing billions into GPUs and infrastructure.

But here's the question most founders aren't asking:

How long will today's AI hardware remain economically valuable?

A small change in depreciation assumptions can significantly impact reported profits, investor expectations, and long-term business decisions.

For AI and SaaS founders, success isn't just about building the most powerful model.

It's about building the most profitable business.

Instead of measuring only:
โ€ข Model performance
โ€ข Token costs
โ€ข Benchmark scores

Start measuring:
โ€ข Infrastructure ROI
โ€ข GPU utilization
โ€ข Compute efficiency
โ€ข Cost per AI action

The next generation of AI winners won't necessarily be the companies spending the most.

They'll be the companies allocating capital the smartest.

Do you think AI infrastructure should be depreciated over 3 years or 6 years?
