123456 is your common password ? Yes the same is the most common and WORST password in the Internet.

Spend a morning or two with "Sesame Street" and you should have all the skills you need to crack the passwords of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of online accounts worldwide.

This according to a new list of the worst passwords of 2013 from security-focused developer SplashData that lists "123456" as the most common and new worst password on the Internet, unseating "password," which topped the previous year's list.

The list was compiled from data dumps of stolen passwords posted online, and the firm says it was especially influenced by the millions of Adobe accounts that were compromised in the fall. Stricture Consulting Group attempted to decrypt the leaked Adobe passwords and released an estimate that almost 2 million of the more than 130 million users affected by the breach appeared to be using "123456" as a password.

Passwords like 'adobe123' and 'photoshop' also make SplashData's top 25 list thanks to the breadth of the Adobe hack.
The list also reveals that people using keys like 'letmein' and 'trustno1' aren't nearly as clever and unique as they might think.
To better protect your data without memorizing myriad strings of nonsense numbers, letters and symbols, SplashData recommends passwords that contain random words separated by spaces or characters like this bit of Yoda-speak: "trolls_jobs_need" or "Crave_love_I_do."

New Blackphone aims to quash surveillance threat

Developed by security experts including those from Silent Circle, the Android-powered Blackphone is designed to make snooping far more difficult.
A new Android-powered smartphone soon to be launched will put privacy and control directly in the hands of its users.
On Wednesday, Silent Circle and Geeksphone announced the formation of a new Switzerland-based joint venture and its first surveillance-thwarting product, the Blackphone.
Powered by a security-oriented Android build named PrivatOS, Blackphone is touted as a carrier and vendor-independent smartphone that will allow consumers and businesses to make and receive secure phone calls, exchange secure texts, transfer and store files, and video chat without compromising privacy on the device.

The smartphone is the brainchild of security and technology specialists including Phil Zimmermann, creator of PGP; Javier Aguera, co-founder of Geeksphone; Jon Callas, co-founder of PGP Inc. and CTO of Silent Circle; Rodrigo Silva-Ramos, co-founder of Geeksphone; and Mike Janke, CEO of Silent Circle and former U.S. Navy SEAL.
"I have spent my whole career working towards the launch of secure telephony products," said Zimmermann. "Blackphone provides users with everything they need to ensure privacy and control of their communications, along with all the other high-end smartphone features they have come to expect."
Blackphone will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, Spain, and preorders will be taken at the end of February. There are no current details available on the gadget's price.
Geeksphone is a Madrid-based firm that develops and promotes open source mobile solution. Washington, D.C.-based Silent Circle is a global encrypted communications service well-known for providing secure e-mail service Silent Mail, before the founders chose to shutter the service in light of US agency spying revelations.

Is The Police Watching You Through Your Laptop?

This news will either frighten you or it will do nothing at all. It seems there is no end to the ways that the US Government can spy on people these days. Every day, it seems, new information is revealed that takes things a step further than the day before. Through the classified documents leaked by Edward Snowden, the world is more than aware of just some of the lengths the Government will go to to get information. His leaks have made some people afraid to use their own cell phones for fear of spying. Others, who feel they have nothing to hide, live much the same as before.
Now, thanks to the Washington Post, it is being reported that the FBI has a few spying tricks up their sleeve as well. (Since they are the Federal Bureau of Investigation, I guess they should be entitled to a few investigative tricks). One of their tricks that may scare and surprise even the most innocent of us is this: the FBI can turn on your laptop’s camera and watch you without you even knowing it.

Good Tool Or Privacy Nightmare?
To be fair to the FBI, this news was revealed to the Washington Post in conjunction with the FBI trying to catch a bombing suspect who had been eluding them for quite some time. The article also reports how they used certain other types of malware to put different surveillance programs on the suspect’s computer.
Here’s what surprised me most about the whole thing – the FBI has been able to secretly spy on anyone through their laptop camera for years now. It’s not some new technology that’s just now allowing them to get a closer look. And while it’s technically only supposed to be used to catch terrorism suspects, what’s to stop them from using it to spy on average citizens down the road?
You and I may never know if we’ve been spied on – and while most of us have nothing to hide, it is still a scary thought knowing that Big Brother could be out there watching us.
What are your thoughts on this subject?
