The NABA Design Award is an event that rewards the best projects by students at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, Italy.
Reinterpreting the institutional graphic design of the event, we curated the design of the catalog, an opportunity that offers a space to observe the work of the Academy and its direction in the contemporary design landscape.
The volume is divided into sections that contain projects from the three-years and two-years courses.
A section containing critical essays from the jury members is followed by the winning projects and honorable mentions. As in past editions, the editor’s request was to have a book with different covers. We worked on the big body of images coming from the students’ works and we reprocessed them using very dense degrees of halftoning, transforming them into ‘graphic objects.’

Lula Ferrari is an architecture studio from Milan. The visual identity we developed is based on a monogram.
Throughout history, monograms have been used by guilds, artisans and artists as a distinctive mark of the quality of their work. In this context, the monogram is used to emphasize the firm’s commitment towards an essential approach and its focus on the function of the spaces and materials used. The logotype flexibly adapts its width to various media: from page to screen.

The exhibition for the 140 years of the Pinocchio book was inaugurated at the on November 30, 2023.
We are very happy to have been called by the curator (together with 30 other graphic designers and 31 designers) to reinterpret this story. We chose the passage where Pinocchio accidentally kills the cricket. Below is our explanation of the poster:

For us the story of Pinocchio was that of the Disney cartoon, we had
never read the book, and it was a surprise: raw, direct and real. Pinocchio is strong-willed and eager for experiences, about which he is warned, not with Disney-esque moralistic rhetoric, but by having the possible consequences of his actions clearly explained to him.
The level of judgment shifts from “being naughty” to “being bad”. Pinocchio establishes his own free will by which he can make mistakes and, through these mistakes, transform himself.
