After 3 weeks and almost 300 installation hours, the Immersive Theater at the Ellen Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is DONE! 💥🦍
And boy are we proud. Of what it is, but also what it will do for creating empathy for gorillas.
This is the world’s highest resolution panoramic projection theater: 25K laser, 50 million pixels along 36m running length of screen, 37 speakers, 2 amplifiers and a media server capable of wireless control via a tablet.
But all of that is in support of a single feeling: it’s like you’re standing in the jungle, surrounded by gorillas. Without any need to impact the ecology, without lots of money, without requiring peak fitness 😂. Is it a replacement for the real thing? Definitely not. But for those who cannot visit gorillas in the wild, it is a quantum leap up from anything that existed before. It is literally the next best thing humanly and technologically possible.
This lends itself beautifully to our mission of democratizing access to nature to get more people to understand and care.
