I am happy to share that today we have successfully concluded the European Project JOULE (Data Journalism Courses for Higher Education), a two-year initiative funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
The project aimed to develop and implement innovative and inclusive data journalism courses for higher education institutions across Europe.
The final conference “Conference on Data Journalism. Opportunities and challenges” was held in Lisbon at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where we presented the main outcomes and achievements of the project, as well as the challenges and opportunities for data journalism in the current context.
As part of the Evodevo team, I had the pleasure of participating in various activities of the project, such as:
- Working on the analysis of the skills and competencies for a data journalist, based on a survey of experts and stakeholders in the field.
- Leading the learning platform activities, where we designed and developed an online platform for hosting and delivering the data journalism courses.
- Creating courses about Open Data, Data Visualization and more, using a blended learning approach that combined online and face-to-face sessions.
- Teaching in the European training event, where we trained teachers and students from different countries on how to use data journalism tools and techniques.
- Delivering a workshop about Tableau for Data Journalism, where I showed how to use this powerful software for creating interactive and engaging data visualizations.
I would like to thank all the partners and collaborators of the project, especially
Paola Vocca, the project leader, and Susana Martins Marques that has organized the final event. I thank all the partners t for their dedication and enthusiasm.
It was a great learning experience and a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the advancement of data journalism education in Europe.
