Farewell wink.by!
In these days we had to make a difficult decision: we changed the WiNK domain from .by to https://wink.codes
It wasn't an easy choice because changing domain is a bit like moving house, especially for a software development company like us.
It all started when the Certification Authority where we had our SSL certificate warned us that the next renewal they would no longer support the issuance of certificates for Belarusian domains.
We had chosen the .by for the play on words with the name "wink" and certainly not for the links with this country, but this communication put us in front of the need to make a choice which, before being about our domain, it is a stance on the European geopolitical situation because basically continuing to own the .by domain meant a (small) injection of capital into Belarus.
First of all, we take the opportunity of this event to clarify that WiNK does not take sides with either of the two nations in conflict and it hopes that a peaceful agreement will soon be reached. Nonetheless, since the beginning of the conflict, WiNK has made itself available to offer work to Ukrainian immigrants who have arrived in Rome, because WiNK takes the side of the weakest regardless of their country of origin.
We could have looked for another Certification Authority that would guarantee us the certificate we needed and we would probably have found it. However, it was undeniable that continuing to have a .by domain meant in fact financing a country that openly supports one of the two sides of the conflict and this was in contrast with our vision. For this reason we decided to migrate all our services from wink.by to wink.codes. At the moment our site is already active with the new domain, while if you access it with the old domain it gives an error because we let the old certificate expire.
In the coming weeks we will also migrate mailboxes and our services to the new domain.
We take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy 2023 in the hope that it will be a year of peace in the world, more than 2022 has been!
