Making healthcare information accessible to everyone. That’s the challenge Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Senese set out to tackle, bringing together the face of Miss Italia 2024 and Algho technology.​

And the project goes far beyond a single avatar: Camilla, Guido and the AOUSIA robot make up a team of virtual assistants that is always on hand. They can learn directly from website content, respond in natural language and speak using a real human voice.

What if handling a complex task no longer meant having to be physically on-site?

Together with WEART, we’re exploring new approaches to remote teleoperation through humanoid robots.

QuestIT, by Vection Technologies, developed the teleoperation architecture, software and user interface, creating the bridge between the operator and the humanoid robot. WEART contributed its TouchDIVER Pro haptic technology, enabling operators not only to control the robot remotely, but also to feel the interaction through tactile feedback, such as physical resistance, material textures and contact forces.

The result is a model where humanoid robots, AI and human supervision come together, allowing operators to step in whenever and wherever their expertise is needed.
It’s another step toward safer, smarter and more efficient workplaces.

A surgeon. An operating room. And a headset replacing a wall of monitors.

No, it’s not a scene from a TV series.
It’s what really happened at the end of 2025, when Dr Rosenberg used Apple Vision Pro in one of the first cases where mixed reality was actually brought into a surgical procedure.

So, what does this change in real terms?
The surgeon could see the operating field in stereoscopic 3D, with diagnostic data layered in real time, anatomical references and everything right there in his field of view. No need to turn his head. No distractions. No separate monitors.

The technology brings together ultra-high-resolution electron microscopy and Artificial Intelligence to automatically analyse and classify red blood cells with an exceptionally high level of accuracy.​

A pressing need. Two years of research. And the first real-world project of its kind in Italy.​
On 10 June, the University of Siena unveiled ABACUS.​

ABACUS is not a chatbot.​
It is a conversational avatar designed to guide and support students at the University of Siena with services, well-being, equal opportunities and appointment booking with the psychology team. Students can access it by text or voice, directly from the University’s website.​
The project started out within a degree programme and grew through the collaboration between the University and QuestIT, by Vection Technologies. It was built with rigour from the ground up: two years of research, design, development, content validation and full compliance with European privacy regulations.​

The result? The University of Siena is the first in Italy to roll out a solution of this kind.
The project also made its way to CRUI, the Conference of Italian University Rectors, where it was presented as a model of innovation that can be replicated elsewhere.​

This project reminds us why we do what we do.​
AI should not just streamline business processes. It can also look after people and become the first port of call for a student who is struggling.

During the event, Nicola Vargiu, Business Unit Manager Healthcare, will give a talk titled: “Smart Healthcare: how AI and XR are transforming processes, training and care.”​
