Visiting a friend who has a guest room with a very bright, deep yellow and wants it to be a brighter blue. Employ the 3 P’s to tackle it with the minimal effort.
1- Prep: First thing is tape window, door and floor (we are going for a similar paint on skirting boards). This makes the room seem more cohesive and slightly taller. ‘Cutting it in’ on the ceiling saves time but requires a right angled 2-3” brush. Fill any holes or cracks in walls and sand skirting lightly then wipe. Good job, you are ready to prime!
2-Prime: Get a small bucket and stir a mixture of 70% desired (water based) paint with 30% water (blend well)! This will be your primer use the angled 2-3” brush for cutting in on the ceiling. A mini roller for the tight spots and a larger roller for the long walls.
3-Paint: after 24 hours of drying time for the primer (which seals the walls) you can then start to paint. Slow and steady or quick but thorough will get those walls painted in no time. Check with a lamp or flash light for areas that aren’t fully covered. One coat of a good paint will do it.
