HP has announced a voluntary recall and replacement program for certain AC power cords used with AC adapters shipped with HP notebook computers, as well as with AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations.

These AC power cords were shipped with products and accessories sold from September 2010 through June 2012. The AC power cords have the potential to overheat, causing a fire and burn hazard. Therefore, HP strongly advises all end users to validate these power cords on the replacement program website and immediately stop using the affected AC power cords.

Not all HP notebook PCs were sold with an affected power cord. Therefore, it is important that you validate the power cord shipped with your notebook PC or purchased with an accessory, or as a spare.

What is required from you?
Go to HP power cord replacement website to check if your notebook AC power cord is affected and request a free replacement if it is. See detailed instructions for the validation, replacement and disposal.
More information
The notebooks, AC adapters, and AC adapter accessories are not affected, only power cords may be affected. AC power cords can be identified by a molded mark on the adapter end of the power cord. The molded mark will be “LS-15”.

HP desktops, workstations and printers were not sold with faulty AC power cords and they are not affected.
