IT CLINIC 13TH MARCH 3PM AND 7PM

IMPORTANT NOTE RE XP

Microsoft will stop supporting XP on April 8th 2014. This means there will be NO more security updates. Without security updates XP computers will become vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software which can steal or damage your information. An infected XP machine on a network it can also infected other computers.

If you are still running XP you should look at upgrading as soon as possible. If you would like any help or advice with this please don’t hesitate to contact us.

MICROSOFT PATCHES

Today is the second Tuesday of the month which is when Microsoft releases it scheduled patches. This will mean that your computer will want to install patches when you shut down today or in the next few days (or windows will restart by itself if you leave your machine on overnight). You will see a yellow shield with an exclamation mark in it next to Shut down. It will take some time to install the patches. If you don’t have time to wait you can click the right arrow next to Shut Down and select Hibernate (which saves the current windows session and then switches off the computer). If you do hibernate your computer it is important that you do restart your computer in the next few days to make sure you get the updates as soon as possible.
