We started our journey in 2015 with a young and ambitious team. Currently we have 8 teammembers in our Amsterdam office and 45 in the development office in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Last week, we welcomed Alessio Caciagli and Gurbe Scheenstra from Envision Pharma Group to Colombo.

Working across borders and time zones means alignment can't be assumed, it has to be built.

Instead of a standard workshop, we ran a hands-on Agile session using LEGO® Serious Play®, led by Phillipa Bowerbank and Peumalee Chandrasiri.

The team built physical models of their workflows, obstacles, and goals, turning abstract friction into something they could see and point to on the table, and open honest conversations.

At Gapstars, we believe strong partnerships aren't built on process alone, they're built on knowing the people on the other side of the screen. Days like this are how that trust is made.

It's not summer in Lisbon without one of these 🍩

Usually eaten straight out of a cool box on the beach, a Bola de Berlim is Portugal's take on the German Berliner doughnut: replacing jam with a creamy egg custard filling.

This week, with half the country on holiday, we brought the beach to the team who stayed behind in the office. Small treat, big morale boost ☀️

Some recognitions you chase. This one, we just kept showing up for.

We've just been named a Great Workplace for Young Talent in Sri Lanka 2026, top 20 out of more than 100 certified organisations, and it's a recognition that means something different to us.

It isn't about tenure or titles. It's about whether young talent gets the room to grow, the space to stay curious, the fun that makes it a place worth showing up to, and a reason to care about something bigger than their own careers.

This year gave us plenty of proof of that. Hackathons where curiosity led the way. Learning paths shaped around where people actually want to go. CSR work that let the team give back, not just show up for it. Activities that kept us energised.

Staying ahead of the curve means constantly re-examining how we build.

Last Thursday, we came together again for Session 6 of our ongoing Data / AI Guild, part of how we continuously sharpen the way our team works with AI.

Gihan De Silva, our Head of Engineering & Products, led the session on moving from AI-assisted individuals to AI-assisted teams.

We covered:

Coaching, mentoring, and shadowing aren't the same tool, and mixing them up wastes everyone's time.

This week our Team Leads got sharper at telling them apart, led by our very own Sulakshini Perera, and helped launch something bigger: The Gapstars Catalyst Mentor Club, a peer network for senior talent to trade real frameworks, navigate client friction, and raise the bar across both the Tech and Finance verticals.

Repurpose set out to give their team a retreat to reset and realign priorities. Their embedded team from Gapstars joined in the way they could: from the south of Sri Lanka.
Four days moved between Weligama and Hiriketiya, and every retreat session came along for the ride, the welcome call, the AI Hackathon kickoff and pitch, Product and Eng sessions, Q3 planning, the Way of Working retro.
Priorities got reset. Work got done. So did the view. “Empowering innovation anywhere” isn’t just what’s on the shirt.
