Madeira Wild Fire (code MD1) - I took this photo in February 2024 from a remote road on top of the island, above the clouds, looking down towards Lombada dos Marinheiros. It’s lovely to see nature doing what it does best, repairing what people destroy. The island of Madeira is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic to the region. In 2023, a wildfire broke out in the northwest of the island, burning more than 3,500 hectares of vegetation.
