A year ago, this was just an idea. Today, it’s something people can actually see, touch, and be part of ♻️

But honestly, it didn’t feel like that at the start. Our first collection was quiet, with low turnout, and many didn’t realise that glass can be properly recycled.

We had to figure things out along the way — how to design a glass recycling bin that’s safe (and not too loud), how to get people to stop, care, and participate, and how to make recycling feel more meaningful than just “drop and go.”

So we kept testing, adjusting, and improving. What started as small on-ground activations gradually evolved into a more structured system — from collection events, to a permanent bin on campus, to workshops where participants create items from recycled glass, and eventually to upcycled products that people can actually use.

Along the way, things began to shift. Not just in terms of the 229.5kg of glass collected, but in how people started to see glass waste — not as something to discard, but as something that can be transformed into value.

That shift in perspective is what was really about — bridging the gap between recycling as a concept and something tangible that people can understand and connect with.

We’re still learning, still building, and still refining. But today, it’s no longer just an idea — it’s real.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our partners for their trust and support throughout this pilot. This collaboration has provided the opportunity to explore, test, and refine practical approaches to glass recycling within a real-world environment, and has been instrumental in shaping the outcomes of this initiative.
