| 3 questions to answer before building your security dashboard |
As physical security systems grow more complex, the data they generate is outpacing most teams' ability to make sense of it — video, access control, AI, IIoT sensors, and more, all coming in simultaneously.
Dashboards solve this — but only when they're built with intent.
1. What data does your system collect? Most teams have more available than they realize, not just camera feeds and access entry records, but also IoT data from other business systems.
2. Who else in the organisation could benefit from seeing this? Security and IT are the obvious starting point, but rarely the only ones. Different teams need different views.
A legal team reviewing an incident only needs the relevant access records — not a full system overview.
3. What does each person need to do when they look at it? The useful dashboards are built around a specific task or outcome, not just data availability.
For example, a manager reviewing monthly performance needs a trend summary — not a live alarm feed.
Getting these three questions right means your team spends less time searching for information and more time using it.
