Everyone loves free stuff. We've seen countless times that people are willing to queue and purchase stuff with the "Buy 1, Get 1" promotion.

There's a psychological explanation for why people are often drawn to free items or offers.

🟦 People associate a free offer with getting something of value without any cost, which triggers a sense of gain. The idea of receiving something for nothing can be perceived as a win or a gain, making it an attractive proposition.

🟦 According to the principle of loss aversion, people prefer to avoid losses rather than acquire equivalent gains. A free offer is seen as a way to gain something without the risk of losing anything (like money), making it psychologically more appealing.

🟦 Free offers often create a sense of urgency, especially if they are available for a limited time. This urgency can trigger the fear of missing out (FOMO), pushing people to act quickly to avoid missing out on a beneficial offer.

🟦 The zero price effect suggests that as the price of a product decreases, our emotional response to the cost diminishes disproportionately. When the price hits zero, the emotional impact is particularly significant, making the item much more attractive than if it were merely low-cost.
