With me are the PR Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, and honestly, working with them has been an amazing experience.

Yesterday, we had a practical session on how to leverage PR and social media listening tools to generate actionable insights, improve public communication, and detect sentiments early enough to better manage crisis communication.

One thing that continues to stand out to me is their willingness to learn, adapt, and genuinely put in the work required to serve Nigerians better. In a world where public perception changes quickly, that level of intentionality and diligence matters a lot.

A lot of businesses approach marketing from a place of panic instead of structure.

Sales drop a little and the first instinct is:
“Let’s run ads.”

But real growth rarely works that way.

The brands that scale sustainably are usually the ones that stayed visible even when things were stable. The ones that kept building trust, collecting data, understanding their audience, refining their messaging, and showing up consistently.

Marketing works better when it is proactive, not desperate.

Because by the time most businesses decide to market aggressively, they are only just trying to recover instead of grow.

A lot of businesses think scaling is a marketing problem.
So they keep changing agencies, creatives, and platforms.

But sometimes, the issue is not the marketing.

It’s what happens after the marketing works.

You can run the best ads and still struggle if:
there’s no structure, no follow-up, and no real understanding of how your customers behave.

Marketing brings people in.

I used to think I understood digital marketing…
until experience started correcting me.

Most of what we believe in this space is shaped by noise, trends, and what people make it look like online. But real growth? It humbles you. It forces you to unlearn.

I’ve realized that it’s not about chasing numbers, hacks, or quick wins. It’s about understanding people, building trust, and staying long enough to see what actually works.

This is not advice.

A lot of businesses are chasing one viral post, one big campaign, one moment that “blows.”
But trust doesn’t work like that.

Trust is built in the quiet consistency people ignore.
The repeated message.
The familiar face.
The brand that keeps showing up even when nothing seems to be happening.

People don’t buy from who went viral.
They buy from who stayed long enough to feel reliable.

So the real question is not:
“How do I go viral?”

It is:
“Can my business stay visible long enough to be trusted?”

As a career woman, the journey to the top can be challenging, and sometimes the obstacles come from where we least expect — our fellow women. Too often, female bosses make it harder for their junior colleagues instead of fostering growth and mentorship.

This thought from Bella Disu is a reminder of what true leadership should look like. Let’s do better by lifting one another, creating opportunities, and showing that collaboration, not competition, is how we truly grow. Together, we can build a future where every woman thrives.
