Why Your Business Has Followers But No Customers
Here’s a conversation we have almost every week:
“We have 15,000 followers on Instagram, but sales are flat.”
It stings to hear, but it needs saying: followers were never the goal. They were supposed to be a means to an end — revenue. Somewhere along the way, “growing the page” became the whole strategy, and a lot of businesses have a healthy-looking social media account attached to a business that isn’t actually growing.
This happens because vanity metrics feel good. Likes are dopamine. Follower counts are a scoreboard you can screenshot. But none of it pays your staff or restocks your shelves.
So what should you actually be tracking?
* Cost per lead — how much are you spending to get one person interested enough to reach out?
* Conversion rate — of the people who do reach out, how many actually buy?
* Customer lifetime value — is your marketing bringing in one-time buyers or repeat customers?
* Return on ad spend — for every naira spent on promotion, how many are coming back?

AI Won’t Replace Your Staff, But a Business Using AI Will Replace You

Business owners worry AI will replace their people. Staff worry AI will take their jobs. Meanwhile, the businesses actually winning aren’t thinking about replacement at all, they’re thinking about leverage.

Here’s what’s really happening: a two-person customer service team using a well-built AI assistant is now handling what used to take eight people, not by cutting six jobs, but by finally keeping up with demand they used to lose to slow response times.

A one-person accounting office is closing books in two days instead of two weeks. A marketing team of three is producing the output of a team of ten.
The threat was never “AI takes your job.” The real threat is simpler and more immediate: your competitor adopts it first, moves faster, costs less, and starts eating your market share while you’re still deciding whether AI is “for businesses like yours.”

We get it.. there’s a lot of noise. Everyone’s selling an AI tool, half of them don’t work as promised, and it’s genuinely hard to separate the hype from what will actually move the needle for your specific business.

Let’s kill a myth right now: hackers don’t only go after banks, oil companies, and government systems.

They go after whoever is easiest to break into. And more often than not, that’s the small business with no IT department, running critical operations on a laptop with no antivirus, a shared password everyone knows, and a WhatsApp group that doubles as the “customer database.”

You’re not too small to be worth attacking. You’re actually the ideal target, valuable enough to have money moving through your accounts, careless enough to have almost no defenses.

We’ve seen it happen. A logistics company that lost access to its own customer records for three days because one staff member clicked a link in a fake “delivery invoice” email. A school that had its entire admissions portal held for ransom right before resumption.
A retail business whose POS system was compromised, quietly leaking customer card data for weeks before anyone noticed.
