Wike calls Turaki-Led PDP caretaker committee fraudulent

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the inauguration of a Peoples Democratic Party caretaker committee by supporters of Kabiru Turaki, describing the move as fraudulent.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike also warns Nigerians against being misled by what he called an attempt to create confusion within the party, insisting that there is only one PDP with its registered national secretariat at Wadata House, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

He maintains that the caretaker committee set up by Turaki and his loyalists was an attempt to deceive the public.

According to him, there is no leadership vacuum in the PDP, as suggested by the group.

Wike further argues that the Supreme Court’s verdict did not create any leadership gap within the party, insisting that any attempt to sell nomination forms by Turaki’s group amounts to fraud.

ACF crisis deepens as BOT and scribe clash over tenure
The Arewa Consultative Forum is enmeshed in a fresh leadership dispute as its Board of Trustees insisted that the tenure of some top officials, including the Secretary-General, Murtala Aliyu, has expired, while the embattled scribe maintains he remains validly in office.

The Chairman of the BOT, Bashir Dalhatu, in a statement today says contrary to reports of a leadership crisis, recent developments in the forum were the outcome of efforts to enforce constitutional provisions on tenure limits and leadership succession.

Dalhatu explains that the ACF Constitution stipulates a single six-year tenure for BOT members, while members of the National Executive Council are to serve a three-year term, renewable once.

According to him, the BOT was alerted earlier in the year to possible breaches of these provisions through a petition by Concerned Members, a group said to include former Secretary-General, Anthony Sani.

Police urges Nigerians to report officers operating without name tag
The Nigeria Police Force is urging citizens to report any officer found on duty without a visible name tag.

This comes after the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, ordered strict compliance with Section 50 (4) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which makes it mandatory for all personnel to wear name tags while on duty.

The Force Complaint Response Unit reinforced the directive in an official communication on its X handle today, calling on members of the public to promptly report violations.

The unit linked the move to its ongoing campaign aimed at promoting accountability and professionalism within the force.

ECOWAS order investigation into escalating terrorism, S/Africa’s Xenophobic attacks

The ECOWAS Parliament has ordered an investigation into the escalating terror attacks across the sub-region, as well as the current wave of xenophobic violence against African migrants in South Africa.

The regional parliamentarians took the decision during the plenary at the First 2026 ECOWAS Parliament Ordinary Session on Tuesday in Abuja

The decision was taken after Ghanaian MP and third deputy speaker Alexander Afenyo-Markin moved a motion on a “matter of urgent direct and profound importance” during the plenary.

The parliament subsequently ordered its Committee on Political Affairs to investigate recent terror attack incidents across the sub-region, especially in Mali and Burkina Faso, and xenophobic attacks in South Africa targeting ECOWAS citizens.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, made this known during engagements with global investors in Paris, France, where he spoke on the direction of the Nigerian economy and the government’s long-term growth plans.
