Gombe State Internal Revenue Service - GIRS Conducts 5-Day Capacity-Building Training on New Tax Act

In a strategic move to enhance institutional efficiency and ensure compliance with evolving fiscal policies, the management of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) organized a comprehensive five-day capacity-building training on the New Tax Act for its staff.

The training, designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the provisions, structure, and practical application of the new tax law, brought together 100 staff members from various departments across the service. The sessions focused on equipping tax officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively interpret and implement the Act in line with best practices.

Throughout the program, participants demonstrated a high level of professionalism, discipline, and eagerness to learn. Interactive sessions, case studies, and practical exercises formed key components of the training, allowing attendees to engage meaningfully and gain hands-on experience.

Addressing participants during the training, the Executive Chairman of GIRS Aisha Adamu FCNA underscored the importance of continuous professional development in the ever-evolving tax environment. She stated:

“A training such as this is essential to ensure that all tax officials fully understand the provisions of the New Tax Act. It is my expectation that you will internalize this knowledge and apply it effectively in the discharge of your duties.”

Delivering his remarks at the closing session, the lead consultant from LIPRIMA, Ozovehe Philip Beida, praised the participants for their attentiveness, commitment, and active participation throughout the training. He encouraged them to translate the knowledge acquired into improved service delivery, emphasizing that practical application is key to achieving the desired impact.

"Building the capacity of tax officials is critical to strengthening revenue generation, improving compliance, and fostering public trust in the tax system". Philip Beida re-emphasized

Moreover, participants also expressed appreciation to the management of GIRS for organizing the training, describing it as timely, insightful, and highly beneficial to their professional growth. Many highlighted that the knowledge gained would significantly enhance their effectiveness in carrying out their responsibilities.

The training, which concluded on Friday, April 24, 2025, was widely described as impactful, educative, and transformative where group presentations was key, marking another milestone in GIRS’s commitment to excellence and service delivery.
