π¨π³π΅ WATCH: HOW FAST NEPAL FLOODED
Terrifying footage captures just how rapidly the catastrophic flood wave swept through Nepal, turning a seemingly normal scene into a wall of mud, rock, ice and debris within moments.
The disaster began after a massive glacier collapse and ice-rock avalanche struck the Lhende Khola River, temporarily blocking the river before the natural dam gave way and unleashed a devastating surge downstream. The Trishuli River reportedly rose by around 9 metres in just 30 minutes.
There was almost no time to react. Roads, bridges, homes and entire sections of communities were overwhelmed as the flood tore through the Himalayan valleys.
