MY TECH SALES JOURNEY
Figuring out the right career path after school can be overwhelming, especially in a society where what you studied doesn’t always matter, but what you can offer does.
I had just graduated from a prestigious university in the South East. My course of study was Marketing. Yes, I know—you might wonder why I chose Marketing of all courses.
I chose Marketing because I had always been passionate about it. As a child, I constantly told my parents that I wanted to become a marketer when I grew up.
Once I returned home after graduation, I immediately started searching for a job because if there is anything I dislike, it is being idle.
My job-hunting journey began almost immediately. I created a LinkedIn account and started searching for roles that matched my interests and skills. It wasn’t an easy process at all.
One evening, I stumbled upon a job post stating that a company was hiring marketers nationwide. I smiled and whispered, “Yes… finally, this might be it.”
I quickly submitted my CV, and a few minutes later, I received a notification on my Gmail app informing me that an interview had been scheduled for the next day.
At that time, I wasn’t yet familiar with Lagos. I had moved there immediately after my project defense.
My elder sister was seated in the living room when I walked in to ask if she knew the location of the interview. Thankfully, she did.
That Monday morning, I woke up earlier than usual. I could hardly sleep the night before because of how excited and nervous I was. I took my bath, dressed in my neatly ironed office wear, and stood in front of the mirror rehearsing possible interview questions.
“Tell us about yourself…”
“Why should we hire you…”
I repeated them until I could almost hear my own voice echoing back at me.
To be continued…..
