Both print and ebook copies of my new book, Sketches of African Women, out now. Links below.

"There is a wonderful story about Pablo Picasso and a napkin and it goes something like this. An admirer on seeing Picasso at a market in Paris, went up to him and asked him to draw something for her. He agreed, picked up a napkin and sketched for about ten minutes. When he was done, she asked how much, and he said, one million francs. She flinched, exclaiming, one million francs for just ten minutes? He replied. No, you are paying for the years and years it took for me to be able to draw that in ten minutes. I am sure this is every artist's dilemma. Being measured by only what is seen and not what is unseen. Yet the unseen is so much more."

I have been a project manager for most of my career, a role I quite enjoy, and one of the critical responsibilities of a project manager is running effective and efficient meetings. Effective in that the goals of the meeting are achieved and efficient in that the meeting keeps to the time allotted. As someone who has run meetings locally, where everyone was in the same room; virtually, where everyone was on the phone, calling in from around the world; and a mix, I had to learn how to do this very quickly. This year we celebrated my dad's 80th birthday and one of my dearest Uncles, Uncle Fola, in his tribute, mentioned the Solidra Circle. I thought it was a nice story at the time but did not think much of it after. Since then I have revived my blog, halftribedotcom, and have been thinking about how best to position it as a serious online magazine focused on people, stories, and events that matter, add value and make great conversations.
