Events in the ICT industry indicates that Nigeria, in spite of our large size, still has a long way to go. We need to make the Internet a ready, affordable and efficient tool for businesses. Coming behind countries like Rwanda, Ghana, Egypt, SA, etc on Mobile Broadband capacity is not exciting, at all. Think on this.

We are unmindful of the truth that every technology, indeed every creation of man should be handled with care, better guarded to achieve the beneficial intended result. Abusive is often inevitable and that calls for caution on the part of users of such technology. The social media is one of those creations we must handle with care. The hit is on! The Telecoms operators have come under the searchlight of the Nigerian politicians and we at ICOMTECH are convinced that this is just the beginning of a fight that may see the nation lose one of its most cherished accomplishments, in recent time. THIS IS TIME FOR US TO START TALKING...ICOMTECH is an independent platform for views to be expressed, positions canvassed and solution proffered. Hurry, we are about to witness the Russian game of Roulette on display in Nigeria. What is your take on this Senate 'threat'?

We must hold our destiny as a people in our hands...the collapse of the telecoms industry stares us in the face. Like most things Nigeria, we fail to take correction until we suddenly lose what we cherished so much. Nigerians must consciously discuss the future of this industry...NOW! ICOMTECH (www.icomtech.org) makes our platform available for opinions on the deplorable state of affairs in the industry.

Every user of mobile phone in Nigeria, (virtually every Nigerian uses one even if they don't own them) is caught in the web of poor quality service delivery - drop calls, undelivered sms, uncompleted calls that you have to pay for...the list is endless. And just to think that the four GSM operators in the country only a few weeks back paid a fine of N1.17B to the regulator, NCC; what do we make of this epileptic quality in service? How many more fines would NCC impose on these operators before we reach the desired minimum standard service delivery? We had pointed out earlier from our site that fines as appropriate as they may appear to assuage the immediate shortcoming of the operators, in the long run, they will not solve the problem of this failing system. The NCC, operators and numerous stakeholders in the sector must speak out the truth, otherwise the bubble could just burst right here in our faces. That platform to put things as they are, is what ICOMTECH seminars provides this country. It's time we started talking!

Nokia plans to cut 10,000 more jobs, bringing the total to one in three staff, as it loses market share to cell phone rivals Apple and Samsung and burns through cash, raising new fears over its future.

In a second profit warning in nine weeks, Nokia said on Thursday, June 14 that its phone business would post a deeper-than-expected loss in the second quarter due to tougher competition, which it expected to continue.
