A site we developed - www.banker49ja.com got hacked! even though its a word press site but we have full control of the site, content and situation now.
Imagine a website as an area in the northern part of Nigeria and the hackers as Boko Haram members then we the developers as the Nigerian army. Also think of the site owner as the president of Nigeria. To regain the community (website):
- First things first what is the extent of the damage,
- Secondly is it ransom (ransom ware) related?
- What was the entry point? i.e how did they infiltrate the system
- Contain the situation so it doesn't spread to other parts of the country (server).
- Block all entry points
- Being extermination process i.e remove terrorists (malware) and check potential terrorist (database for corrupt data).
- Regain full control of the area (website).
- Place security situation on CODE RED (full system monitoring)
- Enhance the community with security operatives to avoid similar occurrence (Enhance the website with new monitoring and security tools)
- Contact the President (Site Owner) informing him that "The situation is now fully under control"
