BREAKING: “60 Minutes” legend Scott Pelley TORCHES the new MAGA CBS leadership in a confrontation that left the newsroom stunned.
Scott Pelley has been at 60 Minutes for over 20 years. He knows exactly what's happening to it under the new MAGA-friendly management at CBS News. And on Monday morning, he said so directly to the people doing it.
In a fiery closed-door meeting, Pelley confronted new executive producer Nick Bilton — a man who has never worked in television news a day in his life — over last week's firings of correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega and 30-year executive producer Tanya Simon.
His words were unambiguous. "She's murdering 60 Minutes," Pelley said of CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. "She does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it and is doing exactly that."
When Bilton gave what sources described as a "lame" answer to a question, Pelley went further: "You wouldn't do very well in a 60 Minutes interview."
Bilton's response to one of the most respected journalists in America? "Scott, I'm not intimidated by you." Then he said, "Enjoy the bagels" and walked out of the room.
The man replacing a 30-year television news veteran simply couldn’t take the heat from his angry staff.
Pelley wasn't alone. Producers showed up to support him in the meeting. CBS News staffers are now circulating a letter to Paramount CEO David Ellison demanding that he respect editorial independence. Journalists at the network are, in the words of one media reporter, "absolutely distraught."
And they know exactly why this is happening. "While there's no smoking gun, Trump's DNA is all over this," said Breaker Media founder Lachlan Cartwright. Trump has raged against 60 Minutes for years and sued the program for millions. Paramount CEO Ellison has been methodically appeasing him — firing Stephen Colbert, installing Weiss, and now gutting the most respected newsmagazine in television history.
60 Minutes is currently performing strongly in the ratings. Viewership is up 9 percent. "If it ain't broke, why are you fixing it?" Cartwright asked.
Because it's not broken. It's being deliberately dismantled for political purposes.
Trump couldn't beat 60 Minutes in court. So, he's having his allies destroy it from the inside instead.

Iran’s decision to suspend talks with Washington was more than a diplomatic protest. It was a signal that Lebanon’s suffering could not simply be treated as background noise.
When others stayed silent, Iran forced the issue onto the table
