Day 2 & Day 3 of Data Analysis with Power BI

📊 Data Import, Cleaning, and Transformation:
Over the course of Day 2 and Day 3, our learners delved into various aspects of data analysis with Power BI. They began by mastering data import techniques and exploring the robust features of Power Query for data cleaning and transformation. This included resolving inconsistencies, managing null values, and applying user-friendly value replacements. Learners also learned how to profile columns, change data types, rename objects, and pivot data to ensure their datasets were ready for deep analytical tasks.

🔄 Building Semantic Models:
A key focus was on simplifying complex data models using star schemas to create efficient semantic models. Learners studied the terminology and implementation of star schemas, understanding the importance of correct data granularity for performance and usability. They also learned to create common date tables, configure one-to-many, and many-to-many relationships, and resolve circular relationships. By the end of these sessions, they were equipped to improve the performance of their Power BI models and make a simple visualization from sample data.

Afro-Tech Girls x IHS Towers Scrum Training

Afro-Tech Girls, a Nigerian non-profit organization founded in 2015 to increase participation of girls and young women in STEM, has partnered with IHS Nigeria to provide 4-week scrum training to recent female Nigerian graduates at no cost to selected participants.

This training is part of IHS Nigeria's commitment to sustainability and the empowerment of girls and women in tech. It will provide selected participants with a foundational skill set in scrum and outstanding candidates will stand a chance to get a scholarship towards a global certification examination.

The training is fully - remote and beginner-friendly. It is aimed at preparing selected candidates to sit for a global certification examination.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills, enhance career prospects, and stand out to employers.

A member of Scotland Innovation Centre for Data and Artificial Intelligence, Abel Aboh, has advised the Nigerian government on critical strategies to tap into the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) economy valued at $1.2 trillion.

Aboh who stated this while appearing on a Channels TV program, said the first thing is for decision-makers in the country to recognize that there is a $1.2 trillion opportunity out there, out of which Nigeria has the potential to attract about 30 to 40%.

He identified four key things the country needs to do to tap into this opportunity.

According to him, Nigeria should not just be playing the role of a powerhouse in Africa, but also a leader in the tech space.

“I looked at the current minister’s mandate, which he put out, if you look at page 18, also, he just mentioned that he wants to train 50,000 people in AI. Now, that’s great, but that’s not enough. We need to start thinking about which areas we need to build. In my head, I’ve got 16 tech areas that can work in Nigeria. Agritech is one of them, EdTech is one of them, Fintech is one of them, Clean Tech is one of them and there is also Green Tech. There are quite a lot of tech areas we can focus on and these cut across the various sectors that we got currently,” he said.
