There was a time when design didn’t look like a career.

It looked like addiction.

I was always on my phone.
Daytime. Midnight. 2 a.m.

My mom would walk into my room at night and see me still designing.
What she saw was a boy pressing his phone.

What I saw was a future I was trying to build.

The truth?
I started with a very bad phone.

What should have taken 2 hours took me 6.
Designs would freeze. Apps would crash.
But I kept going.

And like many families, mine didn’t fully understand it.

“Why are you always on your phone?”
“Don’t you have something better to do?”
“When will you get a real job?”

It wasn’t hatred.
It was worry.

They were comparing my “screen time” to other people’s visible progress.

But they couldn’t see what I could see.

Recently, I spoke to a 16-year-old who is passionate about graphic design.
His parents don’t understand it yet.

I’ve had conversations with young creatives whose phones get seized…
who are told to focus on school and leave this “design thing.”

And I understand both sides.

Parents are afraid.
Young creatives are driven.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Your family can’t support what they don’t understand.
And they won’t understand what you don’t explain.

So instead of fighting them,

It is not enough to be skilled, communicate your skills confidently and competently 😁..

Your clients will need a certain form of assurance that you're really good at what you do and you can deliver their job excellently.

Nobody really cares how long you've been in your field, but how excellent you can deliver on your promise.

A lot of people are skilled but they cannot confidently communicate their skills, and this also affects the way they price their work.

If you know how to communicate your skill confidently, you may not always need to reduce your price at the slightest negotiation, how will you just reduce your price from 15k to #2500 because someone said "omoh that's too expensive" 😅😂

It is not always the best in a field that wins, but the audacious!!

When you are sure about what you can deliver, be firm and communicate it confidently.
