InterSpace Moves From Distributor to Music Technology Infrastructure
What started as a music publishing company in Port Harcourt in 2021 has grown into a technology group serving more than 15,000 artists and over 100 labels across global markets.
Eric Okechukwu, founder of InterSpace, has now formalised the business as the InterSpace Group, bringing together InterSpace Distribution, ToneGrid, InterSpace Sound System, InterSpace Daily and InterSpace SmartLinks, acquired in April 2026.
The biggest development is ToneGrid, a white-label distribution platform that allows labels, regional distributors and music-tech companies to offer their own branded music distribution service without having to build the complex infrastructure themselves. Already, 24 partners are using the platform.
Okechukwu explained that ToneGrid was created after seeing labels and platforms looking for their own branded distribution systems instead of sending artists elsewhere. The platform provides DSP delivery, ISRC and UPC management, royalty splits and YouTube Content ID through InterSpace's backend.
The company is also expanding what it offers through partnerships. ACRCloud is providing audio fingerprinting and content protection, while Rotor Videos, owned by LyricFind, adds music and lyric video creation tools. The SmartLinks acquisition further strengthens the group's artist marketing tools.
InterSpace has built its technology without venture capital or an acquisition roll-up, with Okechukwu leading the development of its technology stack alongside a small engineering team. Its delivery system has also been upgraded to DDEX ERN 4.3, a standard used in Spotify's supply chain.
For Okechukwu, the new group structure reflects how far InterSpace has evolved. He says the company is no longer simply a distribution business, but a growing infrastructure provider for independent music.
