When Plovdivtsi ACRD in southern Bulgaria underwent rapid first impoundment in just 18 days, peak structural demand did not coincide with maximum reservoir level.

A staged nonlinear FEM analysis in DIANA captured exactly why.

Elastic models cannot tell you how long your tunnel lining holds under fire.

As temperatures rise, concrete degrades, spalling risk grows, and load-bearing capacity drops fast.
DIANA tackles this with fully coupled thermal-mechanical analysis, tracking material degradation in real time across the full temperature range.

From fire curve application to post-cooling residual capacity, move beyond fire ratings and understand the true structural margin of your tunnel segments.

Cracks in RCC dams don’t start where you see them, they start where models often fall short.

Deep inside the concrete mass, heat from cement hydration and temperature gradients generate stresses that can quietly govern long-term performance. Capturing these effects accurately requires more than simplified assumptions, it demands rigorous 3D thermal-stress analysis.

In one case study of the Platanovryssi RCC Dam, a change of just 4 meters in monolith length shifted maximum tensile stress by over 12%.

That’s the scale at which design precision operates. And the scale at which long-term performance is decided.

Rockfill dams are among the most nonlinear structures in civil engineering.
Stress-dependent stiffness, pre-consolidation effects, hydrodynamic pressure, and seismic loading all interact in ways that simplified models simply cannot capture.

In this study, researchers used DIANA to simulate the full behavior of the Menta Bituminous-Face Rockfill Dam in Southern Italy, from stepwise construction and reservoir impoundment to nonlinear seismic time-history analysis using real earthquake records.

The results confirmed that advanced FEM reduces over-conservatism and allows material optimization without compromising safety or stability.
