We asked Vanessa to tell us how about her experience joining AppyThings and how she got to this point:
"When I was a kid, I wanted to become an investigator. Then an actress. Then an astronaut. None of these dreams really worked out, but they left in me a mark and the desire of learning as much as I can about anything.
After completing my B.A. in Music Science and my M.A. in History, I realized that none of these two were something that I could excel in. That is when I came to the conclusion that I wanted to do more and made my own “revolution” by taking a big step into the Tech world. I was amazed by the power and the diversity in the field and have since dedicated my life to a three-month intensive full-stack web development bootcamp. That was hands-down the hardest thing I had ever done so far, but I knew I was in the right path. After successfully graduating from the bootcamp I started looking for my first job as a Junior Software Developer.
Fortunately, while looking for a job, I came across a job advertisement in my bootcamp’s community, regarding a Junior API Engineer position at AppyThings.
The job requirements listed, as well as the company’s reputation, immediately got my attention, therefore I applied for the job. Some days later I had my first interview with the HR manager and to my surprise it seemed that I had just “hit the jackpot”. After the successful first interview, I had my second interview with the Tech Lead of the company and that “hit the jackpot” feeling became even more concrete. The decision to become a part of AppyThings was a no-brainer for me. I knew I wanted to be a part of the company, progress and grow together with them.
This is my third week after joining AppyThings as a Junior API Engineer, and I am very pleased with the choice I made to join the team. I like the fact that AppyThings sees me as a human first and as an employee second. They understand my cultural background, where I come from, and my “lack” of experience does not matter at all, as they provide me with all the necessary training and tools I need to keep going. And that is what gives me all the confidence I need to thrive and keep moving forward."
It's a shared feeling, Vanessa. Welcome to the team!
