On this day fifteen years ago, March 18, 2010 to be precise, our team at Icontact BV registered the domain name booxtream.com and registered BooXtream as an international trademark.
It took us a year and six days to release the very first version of the BooXtream watermarking web service, which was introduced on March 24, 2011 during the Ereading Event 2011 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. It turned out that securing books using advanced watermarks appealed to many visitors.
Our first local customers signed up within weeks, our first international contract was signed on November 11, 2011. That was quite a ride, because it was a really big publisher, selling ebooks about a young wizard to millions of customers.
Hardly 4 years later, during the London Book Fair 2015, we were awarded The Publishers Weekly International Book Industry Technology Supplier Award, which proved we were on the right track.
Today we serve hundreds of publishers and web shops worldwide on every continent (except Antarctica) selling ebooks direct to consumer. We're still onboarding new publishers and web shops every week. Our team is continuously improving our watermarking and personalisation technology, while keeping it fully compatible with the open EPUB standard. Ebooks watermarked with BooXtream remain fully accessible. We’re working on new features and our servers are processing millions of ebooks every year.
We would like to thank our customers for their trust in us and in our technology. In a world with several different ebook distribution and protection technologies, downloading EPUB files is still relevant. In these fifteen years, BooXtream became a household name for ebook watermarking and personalisation, aka Social DRM.

ps If your ebook protection use case really requires hard DRM instead of watermarking, like with library lending, we advice to use Readium LCP from EDRLab (European Digital Reading Lab).
pps A new website will be launched shortly 😊
