Power TAC- Power Trading Agent Competition

Power TAC stands for Power Trading Agent Competition. http://www.powertac.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Power TAC is an agent-based open energy system model simulating the performance of retail markets in an increasingly prosumer- and renewable-energy-influenced electricity landscape. Sustainable energy systems of the future will need more than efficient, clean, low-cost, renewable energy sources; they will also need efficient price signals that motivate sustainable energy consumption as well as a b

etter real-time alignment of energy demand and supply. In Power TAC, agents act as retail brokers in a local power distribution region, purchasing power from a wholesale market as well as from local sources, such as homes and businesses with solar panels, and selling power to local customers and into the wholesale market. Retail brokers must solve a supply-chain problem in which the product is infinitely perishable, and supply and demand must be exactly balanced at all times. Our Power TAC public wiki is home to the developing game design and specification, along with a growing bibliography of background materials on the economics of electric power systems.

This year’s theme is 'the more, the merrier'! Who knows whether restrictions on large gatherings will hold throughout the year, but in the virtual world, everyone is welcome to the party.

Notices on updates to the competition will be released soon. In the meantime, spread the word about Power TAC to potential competitors far and wide and let’s make this year’s competition the biggest yet!

The 2020 tournament has finished, and we would like to congratulate the TUC TAC team for their outstanding performance! The Mertacor (2nd place) and Crocodile (3rd place) teams clearly gave them some strong competition. Congratulations are also in order to all the teams for their perseverance and hard work in building their agents and keeping them running through a long tournament schedule.

We are sure everyone will be digging into the logs to figure out how the TUC TAC team pulled it off. We hope to hear from them at the upcoming PASS workshop, and we would also like to hear from the other teams about what worked and perhaps what could be improved. We are planning a panel on the future of Power TAC at the workshop and look forward to your thoughts.

Thanks again for a great tournament and we are looking forward to hearing from you at the PASS workshop on 2-3 December.
