Today we handed over a custom NAUTIS Pilot Boat Simulator to Loodswezen, and brought along a small surprise to mark it 🛟

As pilot transfer operations continue to evolve, training environments need to reflect the realities crews face on the water.

For Loodswezen, this meant preparing crews to act when weather, traffic, vessel motion, and time pressure come together during operations.

Today marked the official handover of a custom NAUTIS Pilot Boat Simulator in a Full Mission Bridge configuration, supported by a NAUTIS Instructor Station. Developed around Loodswezen’s operational training needs, the delivery supports their commitment to providing professional training and preparing their crews for challenging operations.

To mark this, we also brought a small, literally, gift of a miniature 3D-printed simulator of the full system that is now ready for training.

A new update is here for NAUTIS Home! 🚢

We’re pulling into this release with a few additions that make individual practice clearer and more varied.

In this update, you will find:

⚓ Basic Towage: Towage makes its first introduction in NAUTIS Home through premade, structured scenarios. Users can start exploring tug operations with the tugs Olena and Grutte Pier in a fictional port environment. The scenarios also include simulated towing forces in kilonewtons. When the maximum force is exceeded, the towline can snap, adding an important layer of realism.

⚓ Improved Navigation Lights: Navigation lights have been updated to behave more clearly and realistically in different conditions, including fog, distance, and night-time operations.

⚓ Top-down Mooring Cam: A new camera angle that shows the vessel from straight above. It is especially useful during mooring and close-quarter manoeuvring, where a little extra perspective can make a big difference.

This release also includes additional improvements across NAUTIS Home, with more developments already on the horizon. Take a look at the full release notes and the updated roadmap to see what is new and what is coming next 👇

A steady vessel starts with clear control ⚓

In maritime training, anchoring is an important part of helping trainees understand how to keep a vessel safely in position when mooring is not possible. In our next “Less clicks. More teaching.” video, we’re taking a closer look at how instructors can manage anchoring in NAUTIS Instructor.

With just a few clear steps, it supports instructors with simpler workflows, helping them spend less time searching through controls and more time teaching.

We've docked in Singapore this week for SMW 2026 ⚓

Early decisions in port development have long-term consequences, which is why it matters to test a concept while there is still room to adjust it.

The Port of Switzerland used VSTEP’s NAUTIS Simulator to support a feasibility study for a proposed new harbour in Basel, by integrating the harbour concept into an existing detailed simulation environment.

It gave stakeholders a way to compare outcomes and build confidence in the design at an early stage.

As Jan Riemek of Port of Switzerland said: “For us, VSTEP’s simulator gave us a practical way to validate whether the harbour concept would work for real vessel traffic before construction. It allowed us to place different vessel types into the basin and better understand manoeuvrability and safety in a realistic setting.”
