It was founded by Maurits de Bruijn and Juha van 't Zelfde in July 2012, as a result of the Mediafonds at Sandberg Masterclass. It is supported by the Mediafonds and the University of Salzburg.

Currently in port - MS Berge Stahl (Norwegian bulk carrier)
Berge Stahl has a capacity of 364,767 metric tons deadweight (DWT) is 342.08 m (1,122 ft) long, a beam of 63.5 m (208 ft), and a draft, or depth in the water, of 23 m (75 ft).

Because of its massive size, Berge Stahl can only tie up, fully loaded, at two ports in the world, hauling ore from the Terminal Marítimo de Ponta da Madeira in Brazil to the Europoort near Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Even at these ports, passage must be timed to coincide with high tides to prevent the ship running aground. Berge Stahl made this trip about ten times each year, or a round-trip about every five weeks.

Heerema Marine Contractors’ new Deepwater Construction Vessel Aegir, one of the largest deepwater construction vessels in the world, is expected to arrive in Rotterdam today for final outfitting. Aegir is capable of executing complex infrastructure and pipeline projects in ultra deep water and will also have sufficient lifting capacity to install fixed platforms in relatively shallow water. The design is a customized Ulstein Sea of Solutions SOC 5000.

On Sunday 25 november is the planned d**e breakthrough in the Rotterdam Yangtzehaven. Over a width of 90 metres of the emerging water the last zanddam engulfs a half feet height and pushes this road. Then the flow will make the hole wider and deeper. The use of the forces of nature to such a breakthrough almost never happens in our country. The breakthrough is expected to place between 10.00 and 11.00 in the morning. On a large screen in the information centre is the work of the forces of nature to see live.

SHIP OF THE DAY #3 'ROTTERDAM' (Coastguard)

What does a coastguard do?

(Re-) positioning and maintenance of beacons and buoys, clearing explosives, giving radio medical advise, prevent smuggling, rescue seafarers. All that and more. The Dutch coastguard operates under 6 ministeries: Infrastructure and Environment, Defence, Safety and Justice, Finance, Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation and Home Affairs. A good data supplier wouldn't be to much to ask for.

When APM Terminals’ begins operations at its new Maasvlakte II terminal in 2014, there won’t be any drivers heading upwards to start work on its ship-to-shore cranes. In fact, there won’t be any cabins either – because those controlling the cranes will be sharing a nice warm office with colleagues nearby.

Both APMT and Rotterdam World Gateway have ordered ship-to-shore cranes with remote control technology supplied by ABB to their new terminals, and these will be the first cranes of their type in Europe to operate without a driver.

Ship of the day #2: Marco Polo

The Marco Polo is the first container ship in a class of three owned by the CMA CGM GROUP (Official). On 6 November 2012, it became the largest containership in the world measured by capacity, as it can hold 16,020 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit containers). The previous largest was Emma Mærsk and her seven sisters of the Maersk Line E-class.

Ship of the day #1: SAIPEM 7000

World's second largest crane vessel Saipem 7000 is now in Rotterdam Botlek. Two fully revolving cranes with 140-metre-long booms fitted with 4 hooks. Each crane is capable of lifting up to 7,000 tonnes at 40 m lift radius using the main hook. The largest crane vessel is THIALF (Dutch, currently on the way to Cyprus).
