🌱 Exciting update from PlantSat!
We’re thrilled to share our new partnership with Shikhar Insurance Co. Ltd., aimed at launching Nepal’s first-ever satellite-based weather index insurance for farmers. This groundbreaking project will begin with providing crucial protection to over 10,000+ maize and rice farmers from climate extremes such as drought and extreme heat.
🛰️ Why Satellite-Based Index Insurance? In Nepal, 80% of farms are either too small or too remote, making traditional insurance methods costly and impractical. Furthermore, ground-based weather stations are sparse and can't cover all areas, but satellite technology changes the game. It allows us to cover every part of Nepal, offering a scalable solution that eliminates the usual barriers of cost and accessibility. This means quick, automatic claim payouts for farmers when specific weather triggers are met, streamlining the entire process.

Our vision is to scale these solutions to eventually support millions of farmers throughout Nepal, ensuring every farmer can invest in their crops without the fear of losing it all to climate change.
